Thread: is maxing counter attack worth the points?

i've recently gone up the counterinsurgency column in carbineer to get the extra points in counterattack (80pts) and i'm wondering if it's even worth keeping.
a friend that has been playing a while said something about there being a cap at 125 points granted from skills, meaning with master swordsman + expert counterinsurgency i would still only have 125 in counterattack rather than 195... is this true? can anyone verify this?
also, is it worth the points to have tka precision striking for the defense acuity? does it make a big difference?
any help would be great, thanks.

I cant answer the Hvy Swords question but I can tell you that Defense Acuity only works when you are unarmed, so it will not help any other mods so unless you plan on being a TKM its worthless.

No the counter attack isn't worth it since it's kinda a broken mod anyways. And about the defenses some poeple would say get lots to solo high end PvE thing but i just have master swordsman master doc and I do fine against elders and krayts and what not. If you play your char right you won't need any more defenses than the ones master swordsman give you

same here master doc master swordsman works great for pvp with me i may not win much but i can kick a jedi's but

I beg to differ, counterattack is a working mod, and has worked for me many times in pvp and peve situations. Counterattack is like dodge, or block, when it says you counterattack, no damage gets on you for that hit it counterattacked. I would assume that if you increased your counterattack, you would counterattack a lot more, making you a much tougher target to hit. I am 95% sure you cap at 125 for counterattack, along with dodge, block, melee and ranged defense.

the cap for counterattack is +125 from skills, you can add another +25 with attachments. thats how the secondary defenses (counterattack, dodge, and block) work.

so to answer your question, yes you are wasting alot of skill points.

its capped at +125, yes.
I only have Mcarbs because i'm too lazy to grind anything else
Edit: Even when it wasn't capped and my +205 worked, it was only effective in PvP. It didn't work at all in PvE, and still dosn't, even with CoB on.

counterattack works, except you dont actually COUNTER ATTACK you just dont take any damage, its just as good as a dodge.

I have to disagree with Counterattack being as good as dodge, As a master BH/Master carb/pistols 0/0/3/0. I have 105 counter attack and 10 dodge, i dodge just as often as i counter attack. Seems kinda screwy to me

Counterattack works, just possibly not as intended. I'm speculating (along with many others) that there was supposed to be a free 'attack' or possibly some sort of aim style bonus given to the next attack after a counter attack, or a whole extra attack thrown in. I don't think anybody is really sure. Currently, when you counterattack (as noted above) you do not take damage. which is good =) however dodge does the exact same thing, only better. And i'm in the dark about block, i've never played with any conviction a pike or rifleman.
However master swordsman caps at 110 counterattack, so theres an extra 15 counterattack you could possibly obtain. Since I don't have a formula as to how that works out % wise I can't comment on that. However, since +counterack is in the same carbineer line as ranged damage mitigation, you could justify yourself that way. ranged damage mitigation 2, AND +15 counterattack. It's not a bad way to go for PvP. If you've got points to spare.

It's capped at 125 regardless of attachments. the only way to break the def cap is with foods.
it's a lot simpler just to buy +15 counterattack in attachments, you'll be capped right there and wont have to spend any extra skillpoints.
