Thread: Once and for all: is there a difference between sweep, spin and area attack?

I'm getting tired of this. Very tired indeed.

Can anyone with both the sword offense and sword defense lines attest to there being a difference between those 3 types of attack? Do they do the same, at varied damage outputs and HAM costs? Is there a radius involved? A cone-shaped one, circular, or whatnot? I keep hearing spin attack 2 beats area attack 3, but I have yet to hear specifically why.

I know area attack has a posture down component to it, and thats about the only difference I can come up with, not being trained in defense myself.

Can anyone elaborate on this, by any chance?

sweep 1 lowers posture on your selected target

sweep 2 lowers posture multiple, in range, targets

spin does area damage

area attack lowers posture and has the chance of proccin' dizzy on multiple targets

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sweep 2 does damage as well.

Well, actually they all do damage. Icannot figure out the difference between sweep 2 and area 2 really. The descriptions are identicle.

That they all do damage is not in question here. But do they all do the exact same thing with slightly different degrees of effectiveness, or is one type more damaging than the other, or is one's radius or actual area affected by the swing different?

No one has actually tested it. I'm pretty sure they are not the same, but we have no solid numbers.

It may not be the question, but it is certainly relevant when trying to determine the differences.

Here's what SWG Resources has on the special moves:

This question has been asked a bunch and continues to be nebulas. I never use any of the defensive line attacks. I now rarely use Area 3 now post patch. I mostly either bleed and head hit or 2hand hit 3. Im still waiting for them to throw us a bone...

a wise art professor once told me.. "if your not sure about something.. then don't do it." (he was talking about adding or taking away elements in a painting)

BUT the same goes for this over continuing debate over the posture specials we have and the continuing question only proves that..there is no significant difference worth spending hundreds of thousands of points on.. but.. we all did it anyway!

Well....we have to get them all to get master anyway. Not like we're doing it just for the Area Attacks.
