Thread: Hate system...does it even work?

Sorry if there have been other posts on this...I searched abit and couldn't see anything. I thought I'd post this here as swordsman has the area taunt.

Does the hate system even work? taunting should be able to take agro from other players and swap it onto the tank...yet I'm seriously not seeing this post-curb. The way you had to do it pre-cirb was spaming taunt but it just dosn't work now.
A friend and I did some hunting and he could not take agro from me no matter how hard he tryed. He was tkm/swords and I was all ranged. We thought I'd pull and he'd swap the agro to himself and tank the rest of the battle while I resumed damage dealing. Even though I stopped attacking after the initial pulling shot (it was not a dot and was not high damage) he was unable to taunt the critter off me.

We tryed alot of testing, trying to see if we were just missing how the new hate system works but....nada.

What gives? Kinda hard for the melee tanks to operate in pve surely if they can't even remotely control the hate/agro system isn't it?

I've played a lot of other games that are class oriented where tanks have taunt, and our Taunt is on par although the recycle timer is too slow in my opinion, but Area Taunt is next to useless. This used in conjunction with an AoE spin attack should keep the creature glued on you I think, but it just doesn't happen.

Yes i hae noticed the same thing with my area taunt.... ive tryed to use it many a time with no luck. they always run by me to the ranged guys. the best thing to do is to just knock them over and that usually draws their full attention. the taunt by itself works slightly better cause i was using it to fish out individuals out of a group. other than that i think they also go after the highest level Char in the group that your in so that might be anouther reason.

From my experience in group hunting is that whoever is dealing the most damage to the creature it goes for that person, making the whole tanking role completely pointless. TKM are meant to be tanks but they don't do much damage at all so the creature aint interested in them.The tank can't TANK because they don't ever keep the aggroe. Is must be broke.

i have experienced that too. i do a large amount of damage when tanking but the beasties still go and attack the ranged guy 30 m away. very frustrating.

Yep im usualy master commando tkm, but with this respec i've been trying different proffs out to see how they are.


Just away to try swordman out too so was checking this forum out, but last proff i've tried was rifleman and with improved head hit i was hitting for 1500+ with the T-21.So no matter how hard the tkm or swordman tried it was me getting the agroe, so then ya get me taking heavy hits when I aint meant to be the tank. So i try to move away , ya then got the swordman and TKM running after the creature trying to get hits in on it.


With a good enough group fighting creatures a few lvls above is very easy if its one at a time, but the rolls all the proffs are playing don't seem to be working out as intended. A rifleman is dishing heavy dmg out and tanking up close due to the hate system. That leaves the healers in the group trying to heal the ranged folk all the time cause they can't soke up as much as the melee are meant to.


The melee folk aint dishing out big dmg either so prob best to take a melee proff for defenses but use an elite ranged in combat as your main proff, making melee not so good.

Haven't tried the area version, just the normal one and I think it works perfectly. Me, my gf and another friend of mine who is jedi were out doing some lvl72 monsters the other day. The jedi pulled one a a time, fighted some to get his health down, then I taunted the monster and took over the fight, worked all the time. I used to use taunt to pull too, but now I use bleeding strike instead (even if it sucks, even the advanced version doesn't do any significant damage).
