I've been looking around, and it appears that scout blasters can hit for 900 average shots and hit just as fast as I do with my 2 hand curved on berserk. I remember somewhere where I was told that melee would have the advantage of doing more damage than ranged, but that ONLY applies fighting AGAINST ranged, which happens only 1% of the time!!!! And when you ARE attacking something with a gun, it'll just put the gun away for a melee weapon and all your advantage is gone. Also, I looked up the ellite trees of the swordsmen TKA pikeman, carbinier, rifleman, pistolier, and to my great suprise, they had just about identical defense values! Does anyone else see somehting wrong in this? When we were given the chance to pick brawler, it should have warned us that it was purely for style, and not function, seeing as how ranged does the same damage as we do, take the same damage as we do, and have the huge advantage of being ranged in the first palce.

with berserk, i can kill 2 biznatches before any pistoleer can kill one. (as long as the biznatch don't fight back)

We do way more damage than a Scout Blaster. Scout Blaster has a DPS of around 50. 2H Curved Swords can have a DPS of over 100 once sliced (corrected for AR0). Against AR2 mobs Curved Swords still do 50 DPS, while the scout blaster does like 12 DPS. If we get to it, it dies...

I don't know what DPS means, but kammi(master weapsmith on lowca) made herself a scout blaster that was something like 79-169 1.7 seconds whereas my sword is 39-239 2.1 secs sliced

Our real enemy isn't marksman, it's creature handlers.

The best thing about swordsmen (and melee in general) isn't that we do great damage, it's that we can take hits. Melee toughness, melee defense, counterattack, etc, in the end we should be able to tank a Kimo with a group.

Problem is the **edit** Creature Handlers with their 14,000 hit point pets. We can't compete with that. Being a melee in a world of Creature Handlers basically means we're worthless. If you go attack the target, you'll just end up getting hit by it and possibly costing your group a rez-pack, whereas the pet could tank all day.

And with 1 out of every 2 people in SWG being Creature Handlers, there's not much call for us.

I don't want to see Pistoleer outdamaging us -- we need that bonus to offset the fact that we have no ranged attack -- but it's CH's that really keep us shelved.

ive never seen a melee player effectively tank anything. Kimo do over 500 a shot, it would kill most guys in 2 or 3 hits, pets can fight it forever, and medics can just stand there spamming heals on the pet until the kimo dies. No PC is designed to be a tank against kimos, or the like.

I think we could.

Once this layering and stuff gets fixed for armorsmiths, we should see, what, 30% or 40% deflection? That's beyond the normal AR deflection.

So 50% base deflection + 30% kinetic deflection means that a 500 point hit will only do 100 damage.

That's about the damage I take now fighting Baz Nitches. They hit me for 230 max and my armor takes just over half of it, so I take about 110 max. I have a novice medic with me who can keep up with this using Stim-B's. Fighting Kimos you'd want 3 or 4 melee players so they could taunt it back and forth, so nobody gets hit in the head too many times.

The issue for me is that if attacking a kimo from melee range will often make the Kimo turn on me, then I must be able to tank them or else being a melee class in this game is 100% worthless, and we should just delete brawler, TKA, fencer, swordsman and pikemen and only use Creature Handlers.

Thats our only downside. Range, and attacks from it. While the Pistoleer could Kit(think I used it right) a mob, but do jack damage. We do awsome damage, but we gotta GET to the Mob first. Only reason why we can do so much.... but don't most Mobs just Melee anyways and out run almost all of us to begin with?

Melee tanking abilities, what a thought. We're just the stupid guys who *think* we are tough and can tank the big monsters. =p Anyhow, saw my first kilo last night and almost shat myself...
