Thread: All melee character? Can PCs really tank the big stuff?
Your biggest enemy is not that mob in front of you, its your sword. It will kill you much faster.
I posted a class on the Jedi forums for a non-force jedi like class (master tka fencer and swordsman) which gives more to defense than master bountyhunter does (plus all its preq skills) With 4 skill points left over. This means nothing else in skill at all, and thus long down times.
I'll try find the post and the numbers and post it here.
Dear lord no...
One night I was on Lok and hunting Kimo's with a group of skilled marksmen. My experience was absolutely PATHETIC. The Kimo would hit me 4 times (at the very most) and I would be incapped and then slain. Hands down, I made the most amount of trips to the cloning center than anyone else. The best part? I was getting crap for XP because the Kimo would continually kill me before I did any good damage to it. Plus, when the Kimo finally died I would get no XP because I was already dead.

Why weren't you getting healed? Tanking doesn't mean you just stand there and take damage with no backup.
If it took 4 hits to take you down, then there was plenty of time for a medic to heal you up. Or better yet two medics. Medics out there get something like 600+ point heals to both health and action. If it took 4 hits for you to go down, you weren't taking 600 damage per hit.
I think the real problem is most groups on Lok absolutely suck. Get in a good group with a medic or doctor next time, and get them to spam heals on you until intimidate sticks. After that it shouldn't even be that much of a problem.
Found it! (Pardon the delay) This has to be the super mele class, with the exception of the Jedi... which none of us will get in a while.
The power of the TKA, Speed of the Fencer, and the Awsomeattacks of the swordsman.
Skill Modifiers:

Twohanded: Accuracy: +40, Speed: +50 (maybe 60, found a +10 under TKA for it) Toughness: +12

Unarmed: Accuracy: +105,Toughnness: +22, Speed: +60, Damage: +120 (ouch anyone?)

Combat Equallibrium: +85 (Like the Zabrak skill maybe?)
(Brace yourself) Defense: VS Blind: +40, VS Dizzy: +45, VS Intimidate: +40, VS Knockdown: +95 (Yeah, I know what you're thinking), VS Posture Change: +70, VS Stun: +45.
Melee Defense: +74
Ranged Defense: +64
Not to mention all the skills/abilities that come with the mastering of all three elite professions.
(Nicked name the Batosai (Manslayer in Japanese))
Doctors can buff your HAM pools and secondary stats by the thousands (I've been hit with a 1500 point Action buff). Chefs have some very worthwhile foods...for example, Tatooine Sunburns...which can buff up some stats by a 1000 points.
HAM pools can be buffed, you just need to know where to look for buffs...plus, the buffers need to know that they're necessary.
I *don't* think that you'll ever be able to just up and tank a Kimogila...I've yet to devise a strategy that will allow a Brawler to do that...but there are plenty of mobs that ARE tankable.
