Thread: Various Swords Questions

Greetings. I just finished up my month long swordsman grind (Primarily crafting doc, swords on the side) and I had a few questions.

1. What food combinations do you find the most useful? I was thinking accuracy food but our lack of ranged mitigation or defense really makes synthsteak seem like an almost necessary option. What have other swordsman found to be useful for dealing with these types of issues?

2. What is the answer to the lack of a kd/dependable dizzy attack? I know the area attack sometimes puts on a dizzy state but it seems far too unreliable to use in a battle. Is lunge really the only option that we have? I realize that other classes (fencers, tka's, etc) have advantages as far as moves are concerned so how do you guys keep someone stationary without a proper dizzy/kd move?

I have played a TKM and Fencer with a bit of success and am starting to pvp again after about 2 or 3 months off. I'm wondering how to compensate for the disparities in the special move selection that I've had in other classes. Are swordsman simply PVE professions and I should move on or are there tips that you can give out?

I apologize if this has been asked before....I read the stickies but they seemed outdated and was just hoping to get an even better feel for swords than I already possess.

I also want to know about quesion 1. I always drink 2 brandies, a canape if I think I'll need it and a muon or pixiein emergencies, but are there any other foods that will improvemy overall performance?

Well 52 reads as of this post and only one more question. Surely there must be a master that would like to enlighten us on some of his/her techniques.

I would help but I dont really pvp, I am a master doc/swords like you are I believe and It seems there are just too many dabblers out there for us to be anygood in pvp. Our accuracy is pretty crappy with a ph, not to mention slow unless you are speed capped, and the scythe is Kinetic which most people have a minimum of 80% resists too.

I have yet to find a food that helps anymore than a double shot of brandy. I use canape and muon in a pinch because my mind stats are all1000 so I dont need the canape usually unless im getting jumped in the geo caves.

Ok, well I"m guessing from the lack of other posts that the either 1. No one wants to volunteer information or 2. No one pvp's much since this is a PVE oriented kind of class.

On a side note I bought some synthsteak, verpucti, and some accuracy food last night but the pvp that was going to happen disbanded to quick to try out combinations...I guess it'll just be trial and error. I refuse though to belive that a class with as much power as swords can't have some role in pvp or at least be somewhat effective...

In PvE i normally use double brandy (400ish) and double ahrisa (as well 400ish). that boosts my focus high enough that i dont use any mind points for my specials and leaves enough room for a canape when i need mind heals.

I rarely PvP due accurancy and speed issues (not speedcapped yet) and then i focus on turrets

Yeah best bet isn't to use food for upping your accuracy or speed, but to use skill tapes. Eat mind enhancing foods and drinks to go along with your buffs. That's the best I can tell ya. In PvP a good PH with speed cap isn't bad at all. (You will need like +18 to speed to do this though)

Answer to question 2:

We dont really havea dizzy/kd attack, the only thing i can think of is using the attack that sometimes adds dizy, i think it is one of the area attacks, and then just use lunge, preferably lunge 2.

well there is no doubt we are a PvE profession. But I have had some success in PvP mainly because I am master doc. Here are some things I have discovered in PvP with my template:

1. 2handHit3 will apply a dizzy about 1 in 3 hits. Meaning if I hit 2Hhit 3 a few times I will usually land a dizzy. Then once dizzied go for Lunge1 or 2 depending on what you have ( i only have Lunge1). You can also substitute Area or Sweep for posture changes after the dizzy sticks, but I have had success with lunge1. I have a hard time getting anything out of Lunge1 unless they are dizzied, so watch their status bar as well in case someone else lands a dizzy. So my PvP usually goes /intimidate then /2handHit3 for a few hits until both intimidate and dizzy stick, if they dont I abandon it for mind bleeds (macroed) then spam head hit 3. Some times I will hit my mind hit macro which is mindHit1, mindHit2, Intimidate. I have found the scythe to be the most effective for PvP beause of the speed/damage, but the PH is good for damage. Often times I am supporting the group rather than soloing in PvP so I will use my scythe or sword to move between targets applying the bleeds as quick as I can, quick being the key word.

2. As far as food goes, I only use the canape and the brandy. I typically down 3 canapes (33 filliing +600) and one brandy (49 filling 400+), dose the second brandy when my mind is low, and muon when I am in trouble. As far as accuracy and other food enhancements, go for skill tapes if you can afford them, otherwise you are probably better off just boosting your mind. Also get your stats migrated so you have relaitvely equal HAMs.

3. Now as far as Doc, this has saved my butt in PvP. First off macro all your heals, like I have one macro for Cure poison, disease, first aid, and flames, then another macro for states (dizzy, intimidate, stun, blind). Whenever a state or DoTpops up hit the macro and it will heal the state in order. You may get messages about it not healing the other states/DOT, but if you have multiple states/DoTs you can hit it again after 3 seconds. Just make sure to have all the necessary meds in your inventory. Have these in your toolbar and you can really help yourself out and your group.Second, get some good Stim Es, these are usually overkill for healing groups but when you know your stats and have time for one heal these are a lifesaver. Plus one stim E will heal almost three times what a stim B does and cost the same mind. If you are healing yourself a lot in PvE or PvP you are probably going to get mind incapped, which is why good meds are essential. No point in curing half the poison if you have to cure it again.

This is just my experience and I am in no way an expert, and I certainly do not rule in PvP, but these are some survival tactics I have picked up.

Well I appreciate all the tips.

I found a PH last night off a 12 point smith who had wisely dumped some points into accuracy to give -17 or 18 on all ranges. I think I'll try some accuracy food + synthsteak since my guild has autobuffers at pretty much every pvp event so I have 1000 mind/1000focus & willpower + dancer / musician buffs + 2 brandys and a muon in case things get rough.

I'm thinking of using the double brandy + entertainer buffs and a synthsteak / accuracy food (or maybe verpucti + accuracy food) while mind bleeding those around me (good support idea, I like it a lot Redondo) and then trying to get some area dizzies and maybe a lunge. Thanks for the tips all.
