Thread: What skill tree is best to go up first as a Swordsman?

Hey all,

I just thought I'd throw this question out and so what some of my fellow Swordsmen and women thought. I've heard of different reasons to go up different trees from general conversation but then again, forum posts tend to be more descriptive with thought put behind the responses.

I group almost daily with a buddy Novice TKA and I'm just amazed how much exp he gets due to the fact that he can take mobs down so quickly. When I was an Apprentice Heavy Swordsman and he was still working to Novice TKA, the exp ratio was in my favor (not that I care mind you.....we are great friends) but I was thinking that I should perhaps go up the Techniques tree first to help compensate and make us more even in terms of damage.

I'm already a Master Doctor and have taken a liking to soloing on Endor when I can after I get some Musician & Dancer buffs stacked up with my own (I'm a Trando) and I love getting 3k+ exp again like I used to, but that won't happen if we group up.

So......that being said.......do you think I'm correct in going up the Technique tree? Can you tell me why I should select another tree if necessary?

Any help / advice is welcome. Thanks!

I did it in the following order and recommend it to anyone that asks me:

Techniques, Offense, Defense, and do FInesse as it comes.

Speed, major area attack, defense.

I'd recommend techniques, defense, then offense. Mitigation and counterattack are very useful, plus you get spin attack from the defense line, which is also a decent AE attack.

But to be honest, the order isn't too important, as long as you get techniques first. That definately should be your first choice.

Did Defense,Technique,Finesse, and Offense...Some reason I got Finesse before I got my last sword skill box done.

Here is what I did

  • Finesse

  • Offence

  • Defense

The defence stuff it too low really to be much use, and you get the kick ass area attacks with offense. Once you are 4-4-0-x, the defence tree will comevery very fast.

Tech first since headhits and speed alone will make you very good.

Then defence, not offence, since Spin Attack 2 from the Defence 1 is very good area attack. I used it on Endor killing borgle lairs and got 1 million of XP in four hours. You might consider getting Defence 1 box before completing Tech tree, like I did.

Finally Offense. Area 1 and 2 are not better than Spin 2, so the only good skill you get is Area 3 from the last box. That's why Defence offers so much more, like Spin 2 and counterattack. But that's not so big deal which one do you first as long as you complete Techniques first
