Hiya,

as i will have some extra time at hand soon, i thought it would be a good idea to start working on project "FAQ" with you guys, so i created this thread for some brainstorming.

This should not be limited to topics (trainers, scythe...) but also things like what format we should use. You should be able to find nice examples around the different profession boards. I have to say that i'm pretty impressed about what Raphayl, the Fencer Correspondent, has come up with.

I'm looking forward to your input.

Thank you

I would be willing to start work on this - I like the fencer FAQ format also....But we are better...SO I will come up with a better format that will blow away those pansy Fencer's

Who's with me?

Since I am a new swordsman, this would be extremely helpful.

Huan's MHS FAQ 1.0

I am new to swordsman or i am considering it - can you tell me what the profession is all about?

Swordsman is a profession based on highly damaging, medium AP two handed weapons. We are not a finesse profession, and we are not tanks in the normal sense of the word. We don't have the toughness or high melee defense of the TK or fencer - yet with some of our specials we can become Offensive tanks- I.E. dealing out enough damage to your enemies to kill them before they can kill you. We also have the best bleeds in the game which happen to bleed the mind pool and severely damage the secondary mind stats. One of the best things about our profession in pve is we only have one Pool we have to damage to win - most attacks can hit either action or health - but without mind specials we can drain one pool and take down huge targets very fast. We have some of the best selection and best weapons in the game if you know which stats you're looking at and it looks like we have some new weapons on the way.

Great, so how should I get started? Which skill tree should I level?

If you want to use the powerhammer the best thing to do is get your Tech Tree first. The Tech tree is head hits and speed - Some people however choose to use speed sliced curve swords - and if that is your route you should get the defense line first.

The Tech Line gives you Speed +30 and Two hand hit2/3 - Mind Pool Attacks.

The Defense line gives you Mitigation, CoB bonuses, and defense mods.

the specials are Sweep and Spin - both are area posture downs.

At any rate the two middle trees are what you want first - since our area attacks (Offense line) aren't so great when you don't have the speed and damage to back them up.

Of course the finesse line will come as you level through combat xp.

The Finesse line gives Accuracy and MindHit1 and 2 wich is our Bleeds.

The accuracy mods in the finesse tree are crucial so the more combat xp you can get the better.

The offense Line gives some defense mods and our stronger area attacks - I feel they are best to level last and will go more into how to use those specials in a TACTICS portion of the faq.

And where is a good place to level up??

If you can get a group the best place is always the Tuskan fort - it has the most spawns of anywhere in the game and will give you some tactics against NPCs (and thusly other players) the fort can be hard for lower level swordsman because of our defense problems and slow speeds. If you can group and go to the fort that works until you get more skills. At higher levels the Tuskan fort is great for getting a lot of XP.

if you are soloing I would suggest going to dantooine and doing some random hunting - if you have a good pet more so the better - huurtons are great for xp and fairly easy to manage, plus you can get some decent payouts on missions.

It always good to take another novice brawler along (or even ranged profession)

I will work up a tactics section on this fAQ soon.

Ok I can do that! How about weapons?

These stats will vary depending on server, weapon smith, materials, ECT.

The higher level weapons are based on high quality crates I have had master weapon smiths create. It's pretty close to the best you can get at a base level.

If you have one that is better or worse that's proably why.

Also, Smugglers can slice either SPEED or DAMAGE and get up to a 35 percent increase in one or the other, so if you see a weapon that would work better for your species you might want to try to pay for a good slice.

Our noob weapon is the

Heavy Axe -

STATS:

ap- Light

spd- 6.5

dmg- 30-100

wound- 10%

accuracy- +0 to all ranges

HAM - 45/32/18

It's fun to use and looks pretty good - well it's just a stick and some metal.

Vibro Axe -

STATS:

ap- Light

spd- 6.0

dmg- 60-130

wound- 14%

accuracy- -26

HAM - 84/52/19

These are a bit better than heavy axes and look pretty nice. Though I have gotten a few dropped ones with neat mods and poison I wouldn't use them in PVP.

Two-hand Curved Swords -

STATS:

ap- Medium or AP2

spd- 2.6

dmg- 70-260

wound- 38.7%

accuracy- +8 to all ranges

HAM - 28/63/35

This is what a lot of people like to use while getting levels - mostly because of the higher speeds. speed sliced swords can be anywhere from 2.1 to 1.8 however if your race isn't good for high action costs you might want to steer clear.

The downside of swords is the high gap in damage. This is a big problem since the introduction of damage mitigation in all the combat profession. The accuracy is good and has a good wound percent.

Two-handed Axe -

STATS:

ap- Medium or AP2

spd- 3.4

dmg- 130-190

wound- 32.4%

accuracy- +11 on all ranges

HAM- 57/26/20

This is an excellent overlooked weapon for PVP. The accuracy is alone is amazing, it has a high wound chance and a nice tight damage - not to mention a low speed and low HAM costs.

Cleaver -

STATS:

ap- Medium or AP2

spd- 3.4

dmg- 101-218

wound- 44.3%

accuracy- -8 on all ranges

HAM - 46/43/27

awesome weapon!!! a huge long cleaver sword! great for PVP. Tight damage, very high wound percent and the accuracy mods aren't crippling like on the powerhammer. Notice also the reasonable ham costs.

and they just look so cool!!!

Powerhammer -

STATs:

ap- Medium or AP2

spd- 5.5

dmg- 132-457

wound- 29%

accuracy- -30 on all ranges

HAM - 114/38/25

hammers are fun weapons! the t21 of the melee world they can have very high max damages - with a good slice in the 600s. they are great for bleeds and they have BLAST damage which is a particular kind of effect - most common to flamethrowers. some mobs/npcs are weak to blast this can be a great advantage. However, on some higher end mobs like NIGHTSISTERs, some have 100 percent blast resist and 40 kinetic resist - might want to pull out the cleaver or curved

the drawbacks of a powerhammer are its speed and accuracy - even at master levels with an 80 speed mod there is still some lag. I believe you can hit about ever 1.3 seconds though it seems to lag up. the -30 accuracy can really hurt you in PVP, you will notice in the combat spam the MISSES tend to add up. Wounds percentage is pretty low compared to our other weapons.

I would suggest using powerhammers in PVE against large MOBS and NPCs with a lot of ham.

also how master brawler can help a swords and what other skills a swordsman might want.

hope that helps.

another good place to level is on lok, use a mount and have it grouped with you. and look arround for kusak of any kind preferably stalkers. usually they nest in dead logs. if memory serves with a pet in your group you can get about 3800 per kusak stalker, and 1400 per regular kusak, as well as 4000 per lair. just park your pet about 50 to 80m off and move in on foot, and try to lure them one to two at a time as they will aggro you, and when they do that run off away from the lair, and you will be able to kill it at your leisure.

Some special details are good. So far I've done calculations on melee2hHit2 and head hit 3

dmg mod on 2hit2 is 3.0

dmg on head hit 3 is 3.5, and delay seems to be like 2.25

Hey Gorecki,

I just found found my last Holocron which is Silent - I have to start griding other professions to open my FS Slot, which happens to be what I wanted to do all along.

I really enjoy playing this Profession and will not completely drop all my skills here, but I don't think I will have the time to help with the FAQ.

Going back to the grind
