It is common knowledge that all brawler professions are totally owned by all marksmen professions in player-versus-player combat for the simple reason that we cannot defeat their Run & Gun tactics. We cannot attack on the run and we have to be closer than 5 meters from our enemy to fight back. Unless a marksmen is asleep at the keyboard, or careless enough to enter our very small combat range, we have no chance of winning a PvP fight.

It seems the general consensus feels that "all brawling professions should not have a fair chance to win in PvP because it defeats the realism (in a computer game based on a science fiction/fantasy movie???) of a gun versus melee fight in real life", and that "Melee classes should not even be in SWG because there is no and/or little documentation to support their existence in the Star Wars galaxy".

In fact, in various threads, many have expressed the sentiments that PvP should not be balanced and fair for all combat classes, and that brawler professions should just accept that they have a zero percent chance of winning against a marksman profession in PvP.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I do not enjoy unbalanced games that offer me a zero percent chance of winning. Nor do I find it fun to win one-hundred percent of the time, or to lose one-hundred percent of the time.

Again, please make your voice heard in favor of PvP balance for all Brawler Professions in this Developer's Tracker topic that has the attention of the SWG developers.

Thank you!

Most of the people posting that are probably overpowered Pistoleers who can 1) Out damage a rifleman, 2) Out-melee a brawler class. No surprise they like unbalanced classes since it benefits them so much. If we're talking about realism maybe someone should point out that in real life soldiers run around with assault rifles and sub-machine guns, not pistols.

The realism argument on the part of gunfighters is totally bogus in the context of this game. On the most basic level, for example, in real life, I can jump and climb over three foot tall walls, in SW I cannot. Realism certainly plays a part in the immersion of the game setting, but it does not mean much when it comes to game balance. The fact of the matter is, in PvP, gunfighters clearly have a completely unbalancing advantage and at some point it will have to be addressed unless the idea for this game is that half the combat professions were never intended to participate and/or be effective in PvP.

In my opinion, a large part of the endgame and central theme of SWG is supposed to be the Rebel Imperial conflict. To eliminate such a large portion of the game for dedicated melee players is ridiculous. I'm sure that there are plans in the works to bring melee up to a more competitive level even if it's never a totally even fight.

The only people spewing this "don't bring a knife to a gunfight" crap are marksmen who want to remain uber. They couldn't care less about game balance, and want their own personal characters to win 100% of the time against brawlers.

If I as a swordsman get into a long range fight with a marksman, I expect to lose. If the fight begins at melee range though, I would hope Ihave at least adecent chance to win.

Knockdowns from marksmen seems to be one of the issues. All advanced brawlers get some knockdown defense, perhaps it is not set high enough?

Also, I wonder if melee toughness could be made to decrease rangeddamage somewhat? It wouldn't hurt to try it on the test centerand see if it is too overpowering or not.

Jedi are melee attackers, and I don't find it likely that it's going to come as easily in SWG as it is the movies finding a melee opponent to single out in a pvp battle to do a 1on1 with no one else attacking you.
