I don't mean to be a little whiner, but a number of us got bored on Lok the other night and did some duels. I won a good many duels, even some against ranged players. But then came a novice bounty hunter, novice pistoleer, and a TKA.

::Round 1:: FIGHT!

Eyeshot. I lose.

::Round 2:: FIGHT!

Pistol Whip. I lose.

::Round 3:: FIGHT!

Unarmed Knockdown + Dizzy. I lose and can't stand up without falling for a week.

What's the motivation for even attempting to master swordsman if i'm a completely inferior melee class. Hell, i'm inferior in melee to both of those ranged classes as well...

Knockdown's a bitch...

aye. i cant say i dont agree with you there. if im not riding up on someone who is ranged and they dont know im there i cant kill them. im incaped before i get to them. IMHO i think all the ranged classes are WAY overpowered. in the manual it says you will be able to incap quickly. but it failed to mention how quickly you get inccaped by a pistol whip or an underhand shot for 1400 dmg. or the countless knockdown shots while charging your enemy.. freakin sony needs to eitherraise or resists for ussubstantially, nerf the garbage out of ranged, or just get rid of all these melee professions. this is getting ridiculus.

Gohan.

From what i hear (and experienced myself ) is that at lower levels of the swordsman tree are hard.

In duels you'll probably get owned alot of the time vs other melee classes.
But.............i've also heard that master swordsman own other master melee classes from a few ppl.

So I wouldnt worry too much about the potential cuz its definately there.

Just be patient, everyone says master swordsman is well worth time and patience it takes to get there.

Well if you had hit your button first you would win. What do they do when you do Headshot 2 for 1200 mind damage? You just were slow to hit your attack button. Next time get next to them and make them challenge you to the duel. Then accept and hit 2hand hit 2 and watch them drop =)

It's still not cool that I have to hope for a one-shot kill, when they can just throw a knockdown out there and hack away at their leisure. Or shoot away, whichever. And for the record, against the TKA, we were face to face and I was spamming 2h Sweep. I knocked him to kneeling, as normal, but he got up almost immediately and used knockdown on me and I layed/stood there like an idiot the rest of the time. As a master swordsman, what can you do against knockdown? I better get a freakin force choke like Vader because there's not much else I can think of...

This is a bit of a problem. I know people who did all of smuggler just so they could have underhand shot 3.

By the way, heres a play by play of some of my duels last night.

I dueled three ppl in the mos eisley medical center.

Duel 1 (novice Marksman) I go bezerk and after chasing for a couple of seconds, incap him in 1 hit.

I die less than a minute later from bleed =(

Duel2 (same guy) He gets smarter this time and gets some distance from me before the duel starts.

Its extremely close as i chase him around swinging my sword, i think i died due to bleed.

Duel 3 (same guy) Dont know what attack he used but he killed my health in a matter of seconds.

Duel 4 (same guy) Duel starts, he tries to kite, i incap him in 1 hit.

we had a couple more, it was pretty even.

2nd guy- he was another ranged char, just cant remember exactly what profession.

Duel 1- Duel starts.........he fires a few shots as i charge, i catch up and incap him in one blow (i love berzerk)

He didnt want anymore after that =)

3rd guy (novice pikeman)

I was excited to finally get to duel another melee class. (i dont duel that often)

Duel 1- The duel started when he accepted, I thought i would use my favorite tactic and go berzerk and just hack away..............well..............it was a bad idea to say the least.

He chained together 2 specialattacks that looked like a 5 hit combo, and my action bar was down to nothing in a matter of seconds. I should of chained sweep, and 2hand2 together.

unfortunately he didnt have time for a second duel, so i had to settle with a loss, and no redemption.

Im pretty sure i could of taken him with the right tactics, oh well.

Conclusion.

SwordsmanARE pretty strong at low levels, we make hella good tanks and deal out massive damage. But against knockdown and status attacks we are severelylacking in defense.

Ok your first problem is you were using sweep vs a TKA. TKA get to standup for free - you should never use posture change vs a TKA. Your best bet is to just knock them out. Try 2hand hit (your highest) or if you can see they have no helmet go for a mind shot.

If you are also a master brawler you can try a knockdown (2hand lunge 2) we do get. However, again, vs a TKA posture changes areaBAD idea.

Vs Range your best bet is to run away behind a building and stim yourself. The Range guy will persue, but you hit burstrun. When you see him run to you you go after him and he will not realize you have burst cause he wil be to far away to see the message and he will assume your hp damage is from his attack. Then when you are close, lunge him to knockdown (if you are a master brawler). if not, stack as many mind DOTs on him and then attack his mind. Or you can try for some violent strikes - again use the armor he wears as a clue. If he is wearing Ubese a hammer is a bad idea - likewise if he has a helm dont use mind hits.

You just need some practice in pvp - we are fine =)

Dueling is pretty much useless cause no ranged person in their right mind would stand next to you and duel. Our only hope is to be sneaky and run up on unsuspecting foe while mind shotting them into submission, BUT with radar, that ispretty much impossible. I dunno...I love my swordsman, but I doubt I will pvp very often, thoughI love pvp.

An other little trick to help with getting the first shot in duels is to be the acepter and have a hot key set up for your opening attack.

Get Master Brawler. 2HLunge2 is a knockdown, and as I understand it has a range of 15m. I think that's farther than Pistol Whip, which means you can out fight the Pistoleer.

That said, Pistol Whip needs to have the knockdown removed. It's just ridiculous that Pistol, of all things, gets a knockdown when we don't. Pistoleers should not have a knockdown, as simple as that. Pistol Melee defense should do damage and maybe a short stun, but nothing else.

How would someone even be able to get close enough to a person gaurding with a sword to even hit you with there gun.... It just sounds stupid.
