While asking around in guildchat today for where to buy weapons, then going there i found a 62-250 2speed 2h curved, while the one im using is 61-249 1.9 speed
The guildie that directed me there said i should get a few and have em sliced for dmg, as the sword is so fast it doesnt matter what the speed is.
I just got advanced sword techniques last night (+15 speed) and i could swear my hitting speed increased noticeably, and ive read several times that you should always go for speed when grinding
So who is right, my guildie who has mastered swords 2 times, or "me"? (thinking i saw an increase in speed when i got +15 and i was using a 1.9 sword)
I have +45 speed now, as 0201 swordsman

I prefer speed ALL the time(I refuse to grind). If I'm running missions for cash or trying to fill a resource order or going through a dungeon I prefer speed. I'm using the same weapon though mine is 61-247 and 1.7 speed. I'm going to try for a 2 hand cleaver with good speed next. Using 69% kinetic Ubese(chest, legs, helmet only in emergency) I can solo 10k HAM creatures unbuffed, although at more than 2 at a time thats a bad idea. I use standard attacks nearly all the time. I'll use area attacks to finish one MOB and soften up the next at the same time or use lunge to finish one trying to escape. But my methds may not work for you, depending on play style.

This is kinda strange, i was looking at different dmg/speed combinations on the swordman calculator and ive discovered that my sword give the best dps of all the swords until i hit master swordsman, and i was on what is regarded as bloodfin's best weapons shop...

I'm on Kauri, and my sword is sliced. If you have a master weaponsmith make the weapon and a master smuggler slice it, it all comes down to materials and the experimentation process.

My personal preference is to use speed until you reach the speed cap or come across a wiked powerful dmg weapon.

For my curved sword, I used a speed sliced one until I was xxx3 in swordsman. Then I got a damage sliced one. My power hammer I use at master is still speed sliced, because I have no skill tapes to speed it up. Anyone on chilistra wana donate a 2hand +20 AA to me?? please....

I like speed as well, because it simply feels better. But 20% more attacks and 20% more damage essentially mean the same thing (ignoring speed cap issues). A couple of differences:
- Faster speed does help with timing of non-attack activities, like healing. If you need a heal, you don't really want to wait around to get it while your lastspecial clears.
- Faster speed does increase HAM drain from specials. 20% more attacks means 20% more HAM loss from specials. In the world of buffs, this doesn't matter much.

You only have +45 so you're close, but not quite hitting the speed cap if you are using specials with your 1.9 Sword at x/2x/x/.
I'd suggest you usea speed sliced Sword all the way up to x/4/x/x.
Then switch to a speed sliced Hammer.
At Master, you can either use a speed or damage sliced Hammer depending on preference.
A Scythe is always good to have around also.
If you can afford them, you can startusing a speed slicedScythe at Novice until you can switch to a more powerful Hammer (ie Acklay).
Personally, I've mastered Swords 2 times and working on my 3rd time atm and I will always use a speed sliced Scythe from Novice to Master for pure grinding purposes.
Here's how I see it.
If given a choice between speed sliced or damage sliced,many tend tobelieve a damage slice is better.
However, unless you're at the speed cap,a speed slice will always be better.
Example:
Say your weapon is 100-300 4.0 (just an example)
30% damage sliced = 130-390 4.0 = average 260 dmg every 4.0 secs =15 hits or 3900 dmg a minute
30% speed sliced = 100-300 2.8 = average 200 dmg every2.8 secs = 21.4 hitsor4280 dmga minute
*Above does not include any damage/speed multipliers, misses, skill mods, etc.
In other words, you can throw in 1 heal or1 intimmidate or whateverevery minute and theoretically still do about the same damage. It's when you hit the speed cap that things start getting better for a damage sliced weapon.
I could be wrong with the calculations above, but this is how I've assumed things work in the game.

go here:
http://www.ukwm.com/swg/swordsman.php
at +45 speed mod with a 1.9spd sword you're not even close to hitting the speed cap with any special. this will change as you get closer to master but even at master you will not be capped, or even anywhere close to it, with a damage sliced 5.3spd (typical) hammer.
all this info can be gotten from the speed/dps calculator but lets do some simple math using an unsliced 5.3spd 140-470dmg hammer. you get a 30% speed slice on it and it becomes a 3.7spd 140-470dmg hammer. using head hit 3 at master WITH master brawler also (+80 2h speed) you are doing 1073dps. if you get a 30% dmg slice on the same hammer it becomes a 182-611 5.3spd hammer, and you're only doing 973dps with HH3.
the speed formula in this game is logrithmic, meaning the closer you get to 100, the more each increment helps you. adding +15 to a +30 speed mod doesn't do a whole lot. however adding +15 to a +80 speed mod does a helluvalot... ie with that dmg sliced hammer i mentioned before you would be doing 2581dps... that's more than 2.5x as much dmg as you were doing with just +80 and that speed sliced hammer.
so what im saying is this, until you get to master, you want speed sliced items. if you can afford it, keep slicing things (buy crates if you can) and keep the best speed slices, and perhaps one good damage slice for bleeds, though bleeds aren't as crucial as they used to be.

Grinding=Lvling a prof fast
Speed=Fast attacks
Dmg=More damage but less attacks
See the two that have fast in them? plus with speed you can usually make up the damage b/c your attacking more getting maybe 1 extra hit where you might make 50-800(class dependent). But once you have the speed the damage and the other trees go up fast.
