I was bored this weekend, so I decided to add HAM multiplier info to our swordman specials The basic equation for the HAM cost of a special is as follows:

x * (y * z) = HAM cost of Special

x = HAM cost numbers listed in the examine window for a weapon.
y = H/A/M multiplier
z = Secondary stat Modifier (strength, quickness, and focus)

Unfortunately, I still have not figured out how to get the secondary stat modifiers. So, I tested each special with all of my secondary stats at 1. Here is an updated version of the table done by raider7734.

attack xD xT D/T H/A/M Multiplier
------ ---- ----- ----- ---------------
area1 2.0 2.3 0.87 0.47/1.2/0.4
area2 3.0 2.4 1.25 0.98/2.0/0.92
area3 3.0 2.6 1.15 1.2/2.0/1.2
spin1 2.0 1.8 1.11 1.0/1.5/0.92
spin2 3.0 2.3 1.30 1.2/1.7/1.2
sweep1 1.5 1.7 0.88 0.71/1.5/0.6
sweep2 2.0 2.5 0.80 0.47/2.2/0.92
hit1 2.0 1.5 1.33 0.47/0.97/0.5
hit2 3.0 2.25 1.33 0.71/1.2/0.6
hit3 4.0 3.25 1.23 1.0/1.7/0.92
mindhit1 1.0 2.3 0.43 0.47/0.97/0.4
mindhit2 2.0 2.5 0.80 1.0/1.5/0.92
headhit1 1.5 1.6 0.94 0.47/0.97/0.5
headhit2 2.5 2.3 1.09 0.71/1.2/0.6
headhit3 3.5 2.5 1.40 1.2/1.4/1.2

Edit: I revised the above chart to include the correct number of significant digits

Testing procedure:

  1. I got all of my secondary stats to 1 by wearing heavy armorthen migrating them down.

  2. Iused my heavy axe (starter weapon, H/A/M cost = 45/32/13).

  3. I attacked random lairs and checked the HAM drops on my character sheet (crtl-c) for each special attack. Iused each attack three times to make sure the number stayed consistant.

Test data:

Here is a rundown of the numbers I got:

attack H AM
------ --- --- ---
area1 2139 5
area2 446312
area3 556315
spin145 47 12
spin255 55 15
sweep1 32 47 8
sweep2 21 71 12
hit1 21 31 6
hit2 32 39 8
hit3 45 55 12
mindhit1 21 31 5
mindhit2 45 47 12
headhit1 21 31 6
headhit2 32 39 8
headhit3 55 45 15

Very nice. If you don't mind me asking, what was your testing apparatus? And how many digits of precision? I'm curious if the .4's are solidly .4 or might be .45 or closer to .5.

Anyway, great stuff.

should you divide the HAM multiplier by the xT to get the HAM/sec cost? Like an attack that takes 20 mind every second is same mind cost as an attack that takes 100 mind every 5 seconds. I ran a chart to show the HAM cost per second and it made hit 1 and hit 2 look more in line (hit 2 had slightly higher health cost and slightly lower action cost .. mind cost was equal for the two attacks.) but i kept getting some formatting error when trying to post my chart so i'll just say what i've said

nice work by the way

I'll update my post with testing procedures and stuff. I was pretty tired (and a little drunk ) when I posted this stuff the other day, so I did not double check my results either In retrospect, I probably should not have posted this without doing that first. /shrug Live and learn I guess

If you work out the Y factor / equation, i'll integrate it into the DPS calculator

Thanks for the update. I may replace the sticky we have with this, as it's more comprehensive, or something like that. I don't want raider7734 to lose his recognition for the great work he did too though (although I see you cited him ). I'll figure something out.
