Thread: Wookiee = No Armor = Gimped?
I picked a wookiee b/c I wanted to be a woodsman type char + i like them and I won't play anything else, but I am wondering if the fact that wookiees can't wear armor means I shouldn't do melee as a wookiee?
So my question is can a wookiee be a viable melee character since he can't wear armor or is he like half as tough as people who can or what? Any experienced wookiee players know? Do wookiee's make good melee or should I not waste my time with it?
Thanks!

I am pretty new myself , but I can offer what I have seen up to this point .. Wookies are a viable melee class due to theextra Ham that they recieve .. I personally feel that armor is very overrated, and most of the time I don'twear much myself. I have meet quite a few wookie's who played a melee class and I have not heard very many complaints. hope this helps

I feel Wookieesare perhaps the best melee class. When you master even under the current system you get all kinds of melee toughness. I usually out last my armor wearing group members when fighting rancors and such in non PVP. Plus, the added statsare very nice. I like the simplicity too. I don't have to worry about the best armor because I can't wear it. So I focus on buffs and such. Also, there areshield generators that help us as well although I personally have not tried it yet. The added stats also help in the early stages of character dev. Just remember to migrate mind stats as you progress. Mind is a real key to this game. Currently my mind is at 1100 and health and Action at 800. Of course I put a 1000 to 2500 buff on them...
Of course I lub wookiees.. just like I lub Klingons...![]()
One thing I gotta ask though, how/where do you get buffs like that? Do you have medic skills that let you buff or does food from a chef do the trick? 1000-2500 buff seems massive!

Wookies should be able to wear battle helms, to help protect the very, very limited mind pool we have.
Wookies are awesome in melee specialy when you add in our healing factor.
Hammer Time, Hmm whats scarier a wookie with a bowcaster, or a wookie holding a hammer thats bigger than most player's are tall.
In pvp we are a little gimped because of the mind pool and no real way to protect it, or heal it. Pve we rule. most mobs are too stupid to attack just the mind pool.
Well, people need to remember. Yes armor DOES help alot in PvP and PvE. Especially in PvP because regen doesnt mean squat there. And in PvE if you have a medic with you, your good to go. It does signifcantly reduce the damage taken. I saw a guy getting hit for around 50-100 by a rancor with his composite armor on, but i was getting hit for 150-225. Although he was a master pikeman so he also took less damage i melee then i do.
It's basically a trade off for damage. I get hit for more, but i also have more stat points to spend and i regen 2-3x as fast as you would with composite armor on. But you take less damage, and take a major hit to all of your regen pools as well as move costs.
So if i had composite armor on, i would probably take around 120a swing(if not more)for a special on my power hammer. But as i am a wookie with high str, it only takes 79 to do that same special with my PH. So again, i save on my special costs where as you with composite armor would cost more but take less damage.
I beleive wearing armor is "slightly" better then being a wookie. But thats a trade off for being able to be a wookie. Maybe someday they will add "wookie battle armor" (something like tough creature hide that gives like 10% resists or something at no cost to our stats). Then perhaps we would be on even ground.
Wookiees have no armor, but have more HAM (500?) and...they have wookiees'clothes. Thoses are not only to make you pretty doggies.
Wookiees clothes can have more slots than others. That means more skills enhancement.
Now it's kinda broken, but just wait the fix. Just imagine you with +100 ranged defense when others races will get +50 or less.
Limited mind stats? Not sure where you got that from.
Battle Helms that offer protection? Are you making this stuff up?
Yes, Wookiees regen faster than the other races because we can raise our secondary stats higher than other races.
I wouldn't say armor is underrated. I have witnessed buddies of mine shrugging off hits that damage me. But, if you max out your regen stats and get some medic skills, you will be fine. A novice medic with no other skills can use B Stims. If you get B Stims made by a Master Doc crafted with the best resources and fully experiemented in effectiveness, you can get heals equal to a D Stim made by a Master Medic. If you are going up against something really vicious, bring a Doctor with you or have him buff you before you go out. Then your Health and Action stats will be outrageous to the point of being able to chain specials without seeing your stats decrease.
Good Luck
Ok here is my take on the regen and such. Personally I put my Constituion and Stamina in the toilet. The reason is that I am a master doctor. Master Docs can buff all non-mind stats. Really you don't even need master doc to buff Health Str Action Quick. Only med use of about 70 or lower for the really heavey buffs.
I don't like using regen stats because it causes Battle Fatigue. So I heal all the time. It takes literally hours to get up to 80 BF and thats at the Tusken fort and continuous fighting. You just need to balance the mind out statwise..

Notice my HAM. Remember that I was fighting all melee up close and personal. Not bad huh..
I wouldn't say gimped, but definitely challenged. My experience is:
Short battles - we can dish out very high damage and often kill the MoB before we get killed
Long battles - if you can't heal yourself and don't have a medic handy... We lose HAM in monster chunks due to the lack of armor. Usually means death.
Long battles with multiple foes - always end with me staring upwards toward heaven, my health and action bars full, my mind bar completely empty and my helpless medic staring down at me sadly. I take huge random hits to the mind pool in extended battles, and no armor to mitigate it definitely hurts. Unless you develop a serious Muon Gold addiction it can be a little frustrating. And that's with all my mind pool stats maxed...
Shield generators help some, but finding high quality ones is difficult - and expensive!
