Hey all,

I apologize for asking about a (probably) over addressed topic, but I have a few questions concerning Swordsman (Melee) and PvP. I'm a Novice Heavy Swordsman and I'm a little over halfway to mastery and I decided to go Overt for teh additional perk of Faction pets. I haven't been unfortunate enough to run into any malicious members of theenemy faction yet (I just declared this morning), but I am a bit concerned as to my effectiveness in PvP. I understand that at the moment, our range is much too short and Power Hammer is somewhjat ineffective due to the -50 penalty we(I) suffer even at "optimum" range. Can Swordsman (any melee) even compete in PvP? Should I utilize a ranged skill or creature handling if I want to have a chance of defending myself against the enemy? Should I just forget about PvP until the Devs decide to actually fix our class? I am SERIOUSLY considering dropping Swordsman outright since it seems like the Devs have put such a low priority on making or class actually effective in PvP. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to drop this class since it is a lot of fun so far.

Woah,

Sorry for the Triple Thread! I don't know how that happened. Could one of the mods delete the extra posts?

Swordsmen can be good in close quarters (or will be once they give us longer range).

You will never be competitive in outdoors combat where there's no way to close with your opponet except by running across a field.

If you want to compete in outdoors PvP, I suggest picking up ranged skills. Pistols seem to have the most accuracy bonuses and have no trouble shooting stuff at 64m. Rifles are good for mind attacks but the accuracy is dreadful at any range.

Frankly, if you want to be good in PvP you should drop swordsman and go for Bounty Hunter. Either BH/Pistoleer or BH/CH. Bounty Hunters are basically unbeatable in a fair fight and if the battle gets to melee range, there's really no reason to switch to a sword. Pistols work all the better if your target closes the distance.

The game isnt about duels and one on one, we shine in mass pvp when people are too busy focusing on others and we come up behind/flank and whamo, 1-2hit incap

Swordsmen can be good in PvP, not in the wide open though, never go chasing a ranged user, they will just kite you to certain death, you have to hide and use buildings to make the other person come to you.

It also helps to be a creature handler

You are going to get all kinds of views here on that. What species are you if I may ask? In any event I agree most closley with Pecos. I think sword is broke in PVP. If you are a Wookiee you are really broke because we just can't take any damage.

You will get a couple on here who say we are gods in PVP. Some seem to be succesfull with sneak attacks when they are in a group. That is just not my experience. I die pretty much in 10 to 30 seconds with any decent ranged player regardless of tactics. In PVE I have a lot of fun with master sword.

well after playing some on my friends account as a pure swordsman/medic/entertainer/ch, ive got two words for pvp when swordsman is your only combat class: player housing.

If i ever encountered a some1 in the wild, and was LUCKY enough to be near a player city or guild hall or anything, i run my ass off to get in there. lure em to the back, dont have your sword out, have another title, and their done. i know its pretty complicated, but wouldnt you chase an explorer into the back of a cantina to kill 'em. the thing is when you whip out ur sword they get all panicy and turn tails and run, but they ALWAYS run into walls and stuff, and you can easily kill them. i killed two in guild basements, and two in regular corellian housing.

do i have to keep explaining that we arent gimped in anyway? ( well besides our posturs all doing the same thing and all being effected by the timer....we are really great in pvpu just need to get used to it..my advice is to accept duels from anyone and offer them as well..the more you battle the more you learn and refine your tactics
