Thread: Swordsmen need more melee and ranged defence

I wasn't totally upset with the major patch, although CoB is almost not worth using for the time it lasts and the HAM, particularly mind, costs. Otherwise not a disappointment except after looking at the highlights for TKA. A master swordsman, if he's not also a master brawler or other combat class gets something like a whopping 25 melee defence, and 20 ranged defence. This makes no sense, TKA gets +60 melee defence one the Precision striking tree alone, rifleman gets +40 melee defence up one of their trees- what is going on?

Devs if you want to bring in balance to the swordsman class, beef up the melee and ranged defence to at least 50- I know we do sick amounts of damage, which sort of makes up for it, but as a Doctor/swordsman and everyone doing mind hits, I have to be buffed before heading out into the wilds, even with composite armour.

The four precision striking boxes have more melee/ranged defense than master heavy swordsman and master brawler combined.

Take a look at it from the developer point of view for a second:

1) Heavy two handed swordsman = heavy tank, fat damage, not highly mobile, counterattacks with his big weapons

2) Fencer = light tank, medium damage, medium speed, very mobile, dodges like a mofo

3) TKA = light tank, very fast attack speed, very mobile, hard-to-hit martial artist

So lets say you like the heavy tank idea but you want more mobility. Easy as pie, take some fencer or TKA boxes. This way everyone gets to design and play the type of tank they want.

Also, seeing your points are in doctor, consider this: What is the difference between having a lower defense and healing the damage taken vs a higher defense and not healing the damage (i.e. you didn't get hit as much)? I venture to say that it works out about the same as far as your survivability goes.

I think that TKA/Fencer should havea lot ofmelee/ranged defense so they can dodge attacks, while Swordsman/Pikeman should have a lot of melee toughness so they can better absorb damage. The problem is this:

TKAs have high melee/ranged defense and the highest melee toughness.

Fencers now have the highest melee/ranged defense, but they have low toughness.

Both Swordsman and Pikeman have low melee/ranged defense and low melee toughness.

Fencers can't take damage great, but they can avoid it well. TKAs can take damage well and avoid it well. Swordsmen and Pikemen can neither take damage well or avoid it, especially Pikemen. Does anyone see a discrepancy in the defensive distribution here? You have to make a trade off, not get nothing or everything.

It wouldn't be quite as bad if TKA didn't have the highest everything. Personally, the toughness that pikemen get is a JOKE for their attack speed and accuracy.

TKA do not get the highests resistances, actually overall teras kasi have some of the worst resistances of all the melee classes. They do not have the highest damage per hit. They do not have the highest melee and ranged defense. TKA have the highest accuracy, which helps attribute to their status as a damage over time profession. They have high speed mods, but these are some what silly as everyone caps out at 1 second so there is alot of wasted skill mod there.

TKA, do have the highest melee toughness, and I couldn't tell you why. That is boggles my mind. However going around bitching about TKA's high melee/ranged defense ONLY and not even bothering to look at the fencer is just absurd. TKA is second to the fencer when it comes to defenses other than toughness.

I dueled a low level tka last night, im a 0/3/0/3 and to tell you the truth he wupped my ass!! i was surprised i know i have no defenses but still i didnt get his 600 mind to half before i was on my back...

I think its kinda poopy that we don't get better toughness we are melee profession that stands there and gets hit the most(slower speed, high dmg) i think they should beef up or toughness not or dodge skills.

I too would want to see more melee toughness added to our class. A bit more defensive skils couldn't hurt .
