I have an alt that use to get away from my crafting station every once and a while. He's Master Swords/ Master Doc with some TK for Imp COB.

Anyway, I broke a PH on wookie world the other day so I went shopping for a new one on my main, found two, also found a NK Executor via the vendor search and figure ill put my ADK on one of those three. Anyway, since I am master artisan I thought about what kind of power ups I should use, if any for a melee char.

Pre CU I played mainly a ranged combat alt, and now that I am swords I really like it. There is just something intagibly satisfying when you smash someones head with a giant hammer. But I digress. Powerups. I got done shopping and went back to my craft shack and started to fool around with them.

First thing I noticed is that each power up is tied to two stats, one positive & one negative. For example you can decrease the SAC of a weapon but you also reduce the accuracy of the weapon. I thought that was pretty neat. So I made one for damage as well. It also was novel. There is one for weapons that have elemental damage too but I dont see that as being used very much.

Then I made one built for speed. Now, im still only 11pt artisan, so there is room for improvement here on my part, but I was rather shocked. I made a 26%spd -22acc pup and stuck it on my Base 295ish DPS PH. Looked at it after dropping the new Pup on it and was shocked to see that the Base DPS had jumped to almost 400. The power up improved the Base DPS of a weapon by nearly 100 pts. The speed was on the order of 1.5 or so, maybe as high as 1.9, but definately below 2.0. The downside is a hit to the accuracy of the weapon. However if you experiment right that can be reduced to a penalty of -20 or less. One reason I want to buy some more Artisan Exp tapes hehe.

This all happened last night, so I didnt get a chance to give my alt this new hammer and go beat things with it to see how it really worked, so I was wondering if any of the swordsman here have used a power up of this type in their weapons and how did it perform? Would you use a spd PuP like I describe above? Would you prefer to use a different kind? If so why?

Normally I would use a SAC PuP on my hammer to take the 130 SAC down a peg or 5, but with the right foods and since im also a MDoc I really dont see using a SAC PuP as being more beneficial compared to the apparent increase in damage from my newly discovered Spd Pup.

I also really wonder how this PuP would do on a Executor sword (have to try it tonight) which already has a pretty low SAC.

Any thoughts?

Theres one problem about dps, it doesnt matter, a 400 dps hammer with 1k max wont outdamage a 275 dps hammer with 1.1k damage

Hi,

I personally use SAC pups on my ph. I have an ultra-low SAC ph (82), and I'm doc 4004 so I can buff my action, but I still regularly run out of action in extended fights so for me SAC pups are a must.

I know the speed pup make your DPS look good, but faster speed = you running out of action faster. With SAC pups I can alternate between head, power & critical hit for quite a while, and alternating those 3 means I hit almost once a second anyway.

I can live with my 104 action 1139 max. damage hammer while in PVE.

So I go for the damage power up. The Inertial Fluctuator power up I use ups my max. damage to 1228 and that is huge. Even though my speed is reduced, the amount of damage dealt is unbearable to the poor NPCs that have the misfortune to cross my path.

Grinding Bol and Piket lairs these days make me an asset to the group. I can hold aggro and finish off the creature within seconds. Applying Armor Break is like pressing the "I win" button.

BUT...we all must remember that power ups decay your weapon quicker. I would definately use a damage power up on an ADK'd NK Executor, if that's possible.

I agree and disagree with you. In a single hit, sure, your 1.1k hammer would win, but for sheer damage delivered over time, say a minute, the higher DPS weapon should win, all other things being equal of course. If it doesnt then there must be some other factor involved.
