Thread: Sword is it really the new Offensive Power skill like they say?

from reading up on what the developers have been saying they gave some number awhile back to how good each combat skill will be in terms of offense and defense. Sword was supposed to be the melee skill to dish out a lot of damage. And Rifle obviously for ranged.

With the CU my guildmates and I have been trying to learn the game all over again. Trying new things what works what doesn't work. Skill combinations and basics of the CU.

Yesterday in our testing we were finding the end results where that the pikemen were getting more xp over the course of a hunt then the swords. And the swords where also simply not hitting as hard as the pikes.

Now I know the 2 things xp over time is far differen then damage over time in the CU. In fact little relationship other then if you do more damage you might be able to move on to the next target faster and get more kills in.

But if the Sword was supposed to be the strong damage skill then why was the pike doing more damage? We also did some mild weapon comparisons but nothing scientific.

I figure the xp over time might be partialy because of the pikeman spin attack and that they might be getting skill for more targets.

Any thoughts from you serious Swordsmen here?

Anyone up for some scientific testing of which skills really are more powerful in terms of damage output

and tanking (how much a character can take) terms.????

And any thoughts on this initial look showing that sword is not what the developers planned?

Maybe I need to just learn more about swords, maybe I we where not playing it right. I can tell you in the past days our hunts started out very bad, progressed to just really bad, moved up to just sort of bad, and now I can say we are doing well in most things. And it certainly is possible to gain XP in the CU. I did about 1 mil rifle in about 6 hours yesterday. And some of that was messing around time. I expect that with more practice I will find even faster ways to get xp.

In a Word, No.

None of the Things they say they are, realy play the way they say they do/should.

Swords, While having higher damage potential in the single tree, still falls very short when it comes to PvP...and doesn't pull far enough ahead in PvE. The other "damage Classes" have a similar problem.

An Example:

In Duels against Armored oponents, Melee or ranged, Its turns into either a Stalemate where we are unable to kill eachother...Or we SLOWLY wear eachother down to the point where 1-2 lucky hits/misses wins the fight. If You are Fighting a Doc or CM with your Sword, Forget about killing them....It isn't gonna happen, EVER!

Swordsman have higher damage then pikeman just from their weapons. My PH is 1283 my VL is 1109 clearly see the difference now the main problem with swordsman weapons is the speed pre-CU my PH is around 3.5 speed while my VL is 2.5 speed making my dps on my VL 554 and on my PH 523...that is a huge difference and I end up using my swordsman skills with my VL for the mere DPS bonus.

I run Swords/Tk on my combat toon and I have not had a problem beating anyone in PVP except for 2 times. The first was when I tried to use my pre-CU Scythe that was pretty dang nice and now is like a dull safety razor and the other time was when I was taking on a cm and did not know how to work around the paralyzing attack they do. I have taken on MBH/Carbs as well as Rifle combo's and have not really had any trouble with them. The main thing I have found is using my attacks in a particular way instead of just "guessing" which one to use.

Each profession has it's good points and bad points. The thing I have found that is my best strength is armor break and sweep. If I can get a successfull armor break and sweep combo to stick followed by one of my power attacks it will more often than not be pretty devastating. However the snare attacks from ranged are hard to defeat as well as the CM paralyzing but the key to that is not panic, take advantage of what opportunities you get and get as close as possible. That is your best defense against ranged attacks.

One other thing that you need to remember is to use food and spice. They have changed but they are still a + to your stats and that can mean the difference in a close fight.

I'm no CU expert or anything... but from the fairly extensive (read desperate) testing I've done on test I'd guess that Swordsman are the damage dealers strictly on the basis of their specials.

Most of my templates from test involved some form of TK/Sword. But even the ones that didn't have Master Sword I was grabbing The Power Attack and Critical Strike lines. Critical Strike is almost a must get for melee folks. No warmup like PA (which seems to break the Power Attack more often than I like) and surprisinly quick on the cooldown for how much damage it does. Course Critical burns action pretty fast.

Don't be surprised to see a lot of Sword 0004 dabblers.

PVP Swordsman for me has been awesome 3-4 Hit kills.

1.Knockdown

2.Armor Break

3.Critial Hit 1000-1500 Dmg

4.Power Hit - 1000-1200 Dmg

5.Another special hit or two here should do the job.

Currently I am Master Swords, Master Brawler, and almost master Pikes. I am actually considering trying a Swordsman CM combo.

I outdamage jedis in duels and pve, remember that accuracy now increases damage as well as the chances to hit, and swordsmen get +85 general and +110 swords accuracy while pikes get only +65 polearms and the same general, and the other melee proffs get even less. I feel that we do more damage than any other proffesion atm.
