I was on test yesterday and the day before comparing Armour Break, Improved Armour Break and Advanced Armour Break.
Duration seemed to get longer as I moved from Armour Break to Improved then to Advanced (subjective, I didn't time it myself).
However;
The amount that my opponent's armour effectiveness was reduced got less as I moved from Armour Break to Improved to Advanced.
I'm not an out-and-out swordsman so I'm asking you guys here. Is it right that Armour Break should get LESS effective as you go higher up the tree? It seems crazy to me. Is this bug on live too?

Now that I have read this, I just picked up advanced armor break and I do seem to be doing less damage to the same krayt.

Maybe it's a tad less because the cooldown shortens and the length greatens?
Shrug.
Shrug.

That could be, Klinsek. Given the state of the game I would be surprised if it wasn't a bug though. The difference in effectiveness is so marked (far from 'a tad', well over double!) that I doubt people would ever choose to use Advanced Armor Break even with its greater duration (but of course, with the new system we have no choice).
Solid numbers from my testing;
Opponents were level 25 mobs in Bestine with [a Sandtrooper] skins. Multiple tests performed on identical level and skin mobs.
Armor Break, like all effects its seems, doesn't stack.
Once you learn a 'better' version of the skill you forget your previous version. (If you 'can' perform Improved Armor Break then you 'do' perform it - you can't choose which version to use.)
Test character was level 80, Master TKA, Master Doc, Swordsman
Note that I remained as low level swordsman as possible to use each variant of Armor Break so that there were no accuracy differences between the tests. I chose TKA and Doc so that I could let level 25 mobs whack away at me for ages to collect numbers.
Note that the new boring combat system makes testing easy since every single hit does identical damage.
Using Melee Hit: the mob's armor absorbed 47/607
Level 25 mob's armour absorbed 7.74%
Applying Armor Break and using Melee Hit: the mob's armour absorbed 13/607
Level 25 mob's armour absorbed 2.14%
Applying Improved Armor Break and using Melee Hit: the mob's armour absorbed 23/607
Level 25 mob's armour absorbed 3.79%
Applying Advanced Armor Break and using Melee Hit: the mob's armour absorbed 28/607
Level 25 mob's armour absorbed 4.61%
Armor Break - decreases opponent's armor effectiveness to 28%
Improved Armor Break - decreases opponent's armor effectiveness to 49%
Advanced Armor Break - decreases opponent's armor effectiveness to 60%
I find this a very significant decrease in effectiveness. Armor Break is more than twice as effective as Advanced Armor Break.

Thats disheartening to say the least
Is it just me or does it just keep looking like Mswords is a waste. The main things we have going for us is our damage specials and armor break, now we find out a novice swordsman breaks armor better than a master
and a dabbler can get our specials. Ive been Mswords since i started playing, cant believe im even thinking about dropping it

noted. Ill check this out and ask about it. from UncleSecti's post, seems maybe the mods are backwards or something.

It seems backwards to me, although the duration does seem to get longer as you get the higher skills (I haven't timed them though).
I don't know whether this bug(?) is present on live today as it isn't so easy to hop up and down the skill tree to test (my testing was on test centre a couple of days ago). Could any of you proper swordsman have a look to verify?
