I've been hearing things about people saying that defence mods from other professions no longer work unless you weild a weapon specifically for it. Is this true? And to clarify it, does it mean say, I am a master swordsman and I get the meditation tree and the defensive trees in fencer. Will they not work for me because I am not unarmed nor 1-handed?

If the name is the same it will stack.

The only defense mods that don't stack are specific melee toughness mods. For example, all the defense vs state mods add up no matter where you get them, but unarmed toughness will never stack with one-handed melee toughness, two-handed melee toughness, or polearm toughness and vise-versa. Also you can meditate no matter what you are holding.

I don't think I can stress this enough, the only things that are weapon specific (require you to be holding a certain weapon to use them or for them to take effect) are the special attacks used by that weapon and the weapon's specific melee toughness.

Gorecki should really make a sticky of something like this. I see posts like this one all the time, and if therewas a stickypost that addressed this it would help a lot of people.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that. Yes, a sticky would make things easier. I wonder why SOE didn't make a general forum so we can discuss widespread things such as this.

There have been some pretty comclusive tests that not all things stack now. For instance, dodge will stack, and work if you are wielding a pistol, or a 1hd sword, but NOT a 2hd sword. Check out the pistoleer forums, i believe their correspondent has been looking into this.
