I would recommend reading each melee professions' message boards to see their successes and complaints.

then i would recommend logging in and /respec'ing a few times over the next couple weeks.

if you want offense and defense - mSwords, TKM. everythingafter thatis gravy.

My 2 pennies:

PvE and FS grinding: TKM / M. Swordsman for the great innate armor and power of Swords. (If FS grinding, get Smuggler 0040 and you can max pistols at 1.2 mill xp along with the 1.2 mill UA and 2Hand xp.)

PvP: M. Pike / M. Swordsman for the strength and Pike special attacks.

Suarat: Master Shipwright 12/17/17 - Akron's Havok Squadron Ace Pilot
CAIDOZ: Elder Jedi - CorSec Squadron Ace Pilot
Aurilius Maximus: Commando - Completed 6th mastery, hesitant to continue due to Kessel Spawn

I've been reading for days about different templates, so I decided to respec and try some of them myself... but I can only seem to be Master Swordsman. I can't seem to add Master TKA to my template as I don't have enough elite points. Am I missing something obvious or is this how it should be? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

What's the Point in adding TKM? Initiate Armor only works without any armor on me. So question is now. As TKM is my Initiate Armor WITHOUT Unarmed defense absorbing more damage than a Master Sword with full 7000ish Armor?

Did I miss something?

Swordsman/Pikeman. Pikeman gives you almost the defense of TKM, plus Intimidate, Warcry, AoE knockdown, Spin attack, Impale, and some of the coolest weapons in-game. Thisis my template and I love it.

TK innate armor is supposed to be as good as the best armor an AS can produce. However there is some question as to whether or not it applies if you have a two-handed weapon equipped.. some say they tested and it does, some say they tested and it doesn't.

this question seems to be all over the place, and answered just as many times.

Innate armor works as long as you're not wearing armor. does not matter what weapon you're holding.

as a TKM/mSword/mFencer, i use innate armor 100% of the time, and it works fine no matter what i'm holding.

i have slightly more defense (25 points to be exact) if i'm unarmed as opposed to sworded or fencered, and that's due to unarmed defense being higher than 2hand defense or 1hand defense. honestly, this doesn't make a whole lot of difference and the tradeoff of having superior dmg while using a powerhammer more than makes up for this.

TKM innate + CoB gives you 10000 point armor. what more do ya want?

nevermind powerboost and meditation (makes not having medic more viable).

imo, triple threat melee with TKM is a lot of fun to play. not that you can't do well with good armor and sword/pike/something else.

This is mainly because since the CU respec I've been taking down bases and hunting in groups, but I found Squad Leader to go well with swordsman. Barking out orders without typing it is such great fun, especially when they do something

Which brings me back to my question... the post or two above said they were TKA/Master Swords/Master Pike... how is this possible? I tried to respec to Master Swords and Master TKA but it won't let me 'cos there aren't enough points available to me to do this... please help, fellow Swordsmen, I implore you...

If you already had Master Swordsman and Master Pikeman, you could only dabble in TK. Two trees to be exact. My template is Swordsman/Pikeman, 4400 Fencer, 1200 Enhanced Reflexes and 0004 Combat Prowess.

With my shiny new +16 Melee/Ranged Defense formfitting shirt, I just hit 301 melee defense last night, assuming I have a pike equipped

Ah...what about Melee/Ranged Defense, any caps? I thought this was 125 before CU, but now?
