Thread: An issue of balanceing out the melee professions

Guys i wrote this post months ago but it still pretty much holds true for today, and i just though i would repost it again so that this issue can get some attention during the rebalance so that swordsman, pikemen and fencers can get the upgrades that they need. This is not a nerf cry on TKA at all, its an issue of bringing up the other melee classes to where they should be.

I would like to see more of a balancing between the four elite brawler professions. As its stands right now TKA are the hands down best brawlers out there, they have the highest defenses and arguably the highest DPSand they can achive this by only going up 3 skill trees.

Ok, TKA have 1 line completely dedicated to meditate, which is arguably one of the most useful skills in the game. It heals wounds, poison, anddisease. I've seen a mastercombat medic try topoison a master TKA several times and after killing the combat medic he just sits down and meditates off the poison (mind poison).

In their other three lines they get their toughness, melee/ranged defense, state defenses, bonus to accuracy, bonus to speed and bonuses to damage (which no other melee profession gets, added i think because of their lack of weapons).

So in other words what is usually spread out into 4 trees for all the other brawler professions is spread out into 3 for the TKA. Just by going up these 3 trees you can be as effective in combat if not more than swordsman/fencer/pikeman. You can also see how spread out and diluted the other professions skill boxes are by looking at them in game with control-s or by using the character builderI linked below. By skimming through the boxes of the other professions you see that many times they are just given either a single bonus OR an ability for that box. You can look up the swordsmans technique or finess line or look at the pikemans stances, offensive techniques or support abilities for an example of what i'm talking about. Now look at the 3 lines in TKA in every box they are given not only several skill mods but also a new ability. Even the diversity in abilities are very lacking amoung the other professions.Swordsman have 3seperate lines of specials that have the effect of posture down??? While TKA can dizzy, knockdown, blind, or target any HAM bar they like including mind.

I'm not asking at all for a nerf on TKA at all, I think they are a great well rounded class, i'm just stating my observations and hoping something can be done to fill out the other professions to bring them up to this level during the re-balance.

Anyways i think i wrote this out in sept. but its still for the most part true even though they did add CoB since then and melee mitigation and uped defenses a bit. The point is that TKA rely on only 3 skill trees to recieve all their combat skills and bonuses and are arguably the most powerful melee profession in game right now while everyone else has to go up 4 skill trees to gain combat bonus that only equal a percetage of what TKA recieve.

Yeah I remember that post (amazingly enough). It's true though.

Here is the link to the character builder i mentioned, all you have to do is run your cursor over the skill boxes to see what i'm talking about.

When you say that TKA have the highest dps for melee, do you count what pool its going against? If you can do 100 points of damage a second to random pools, that might not be as good as doing 90 per second to a specific pool. (note that these numbers are completly made up for an example) Do tka's damage stand up to swordsman when you talk about the actual pools that get hit. I know tka can attack mind, but im pretty sure that swordsmans dps is much higher attacking the mind pool. Don't get me wrong, tka's are strong, I think more melee should be that strong. I thintk that swordsman is an awsome proffesion though, it rocks. If I thought tka was much better, I would just roll a tka.

TKA can attack any pool they choose and do so very fast. Also in pvp damage mitigation barely has any effect on them, they clearly outdamage any other profession when it comes to pvp. (melee that is)

It's true, presently TK does damage superior to Swordsmanvs. any armor level, unless it's medium or heavy armor and you use headhits and both bleeds(not reduced by armor and resists (soon to be nerfed)), or unless the target's resists favor our damage type.

Wait and see how it shakes out in the next few months... notes from the combat designer sometime in Sept. indicate thatall melee professions needed a damage increase, it's just that TK got theirs already(easily done by adjusting theUnarmed Damage bonuses), while the rest of ushave to wait for the weapons balance pass, etc.

Rest assured, we're going to be quite a bit more damaging than we are now.Fencer and Pikeman will get the love, too... we all need to be brought up topar.

Why does eveeryone want to be brought up to par with tkas when i comes to pvp? Surely there is no fun in 3 seconds fights.

Maybe because TK has gone through enough tinkering and adjustment that they're just about right, and now it's time for the other brawling classes to get some love?

PS -Elite melee professions are supposed to kick much tail, up close and personal. If you don't want to die in 3 seconds, get some armor.
