Thread: Defensive Swordsmen Tank

Im thinking of making a new template with swordsmen as its core.

I wanna do swordsmen for the damage type's (Kinetic Scythe and Blast Hammer)

So I was thinking:


Master Brawler

Master Swordsmen

0-4-4-0 Fencer (For melee mitigation and dodge + other defences)

4-4-0-0 TKA(For melee mitigation and woundhealing + other defences)

0-0-4-0 Pike (For more melee mitigation and other defences)

0-0-3-0 Medic (So I can Use stim C's)


Now my question was. Do all those defensive skills stack...?

Cause if you get all those melee mitigation, and the 2 type's of attack's. You should be able to solo almost everything in this game (With buffs and 80% armor).


Now this will be a PVE template. Not a PVP template.

If anyone has suggestions to make this template better let me know.

One thing do. I do not wish to master TKA. I have done it, and i dont find a very fun cause everyone cause everyone is TKA these days.

melee mitigation doesn't stack, but the others do, up to a certain point.

another thing is you dont need TKA's balance conditioning 4, all it gives is a bit of unarmed toughness and if your doing pure swordsman you dont need it.

also getting dodge wont help you much becase swordsman center of being only enhances your counterattack skills and at the moment completely useless against high end creatures cause their accuracy is so high.

mitigation wont stack and dodge/block/counterattack only stacks to 125, but the generic 'melee defense' and generic 'ranged defense' will.

Melee Defense, Ranged Defense, Dodge, Block, and Counterattack all cap in effectiveness at 125. This can onl be broken by Squad Leader, and Stronghold as far as I'm aware. Anything beyond 125 will appear in the GUI, but have no effect.


There has been no word from the devs that I'm aware of on whether skill tapes can break the cap.


Mitigations do not stack between professions, you have to have a weapon equipped that correlates with the mitigation you're attempting to use.


Only change I would suggest would be working in 'some' form of Ranged Attack solely for the purpose of finishing off critters when they run away from you.

Maybe my math was wrong but you can only get up to medic 0-0-2-0 if you want everything else. Also i was under the impression that 2 hand weapon users dont utilize dodge but use block instead. Correct me if im wrong on anything

Ok if your looking for a pure melee tank (though like someone mentioned you may want to drop a bit for a ranged profession for when things run) you can also try

TKA 4004
Fencer 4000
Master Swordsman
Pikeman 0040
Medic 0040

With 0040 in medic you can use Stim D's that are experimented down to 40 med use (pretty common)

TKA you get meditation and state/melee/ranged defense
Fencer for ranged/melee/state defense
Pikeman for the same
and Swordsman for your main profession.

With this you'll go over your max for ranged and melee defense (which are capped at 125 but you get 139 ranged and 166 melee) you'll also have:

Defense vs Blind +40
Defense vs Dizzy +45
Defense vs Intimidate +20
Defense vs Knockdown +65
Defense vs Posture Change +60
Defense vs Stun +85

First of all. Thx all for the replies. Now for my next question:


mm.. with this build wont you get



melee defense +91


and


ranged defense +79??



I took this information from www.swgcb.com



Also I dont the ranged points are worth it. Ifa creature runs away ill finish of the others and it will come running back.

And if its the last creature there. Ill run after him and smash his head in.

smarter to do fencer 4-4-4-0 instead of pikeman 0-0-4-0, because it gives much better state defenses.

I think the character builder your using is out of date even though name wise and version wise its the same as the one im using. If you look at yours under master artisan it doesnt list the vehicles, BUT if you use the one at http://swgcb.yogn.net/swg-cb.php it does and thats the one im using.

True, if you want to take that into account and also keep master brawler for the intimidate 2 and WC2 (still handy if you need to keep a higher level mob off you if you need to heal) then you can also go with this

TKA 4004
Fencer 3440*
M. Swordsman
M Brawler
Medic 0040

*you really dont need the 4th box in the first line, only really gives you more ranged and melee defense and with this template you will be over the cap for melee defense and only 6 points short of the cap for ranged and you can get that with skill tapes if you want
