Thread: Advice needed from knowledgeable Swordsmen

Hi everyone,

I'm not a Swordsman, but I need some advice.

A friend of mine is a Master Creature Handler. Yes, I know...it's crazy, but she loves the profession. Anyway, I know as well as any of you, that CH is pretty much gimped to heck and back. Outside of having some ultra-uber pet, the entire prof is pretty much useless in high-level PvP. However, she loves her animals and I doubt she'll ever give it up.

Now, my question: She is currently Master Rifleman, as am I. I however have a much more PvP friendly template. In PvP, she gets slaughtered because of the wretched defenses of Rifleman. With so few skill points left, she can't beef her character up much either. Do any of you Swordsmen think she might be better off in PvP if she were to put down her rifle in exchange for a Scythe? Fencer has the best defenses, this I know, but unless you have an uber-baton; you ain't doing much damage. My thinking is that Swordsman will remove the "to-hit" modifier that Rifleman has while still allowing her to dish out decent damage. Plus, she'll have more points toput intoFencerfor some extra defense. Pikeman was another alternative, but that's only because of Mind Fire pikes (a tactic which I find distasteful).

So, in short, would a Master Swordsman/Master CH with some Fencer dabbling be better off than a Master Rifleman/CH in PvP?

swordsmen is a good profession, but standing on its own its not the greatest in PvP. Yes, we have headhit3 and mindhit2 same as rifleman. but we have kinetic damage and anyone wearing comp armor hiders out damage output greatly. your right on its own, swordsmen doesn't have good defenses but if you dabbled in fencer that would be good. its all up to her, would she like melee over ranged? ive been a CH and rifleman but never together, I would think that rifleman / CH would be better since you can have your pets attack and just shoot from the distance, but could be wrong. if you switched to the melee you would have better defenses from swordsmen and fencer. tough call but I would say if you are for PvP, stay with rifleman and i think she just needs to get a jawa rifle for stun dmg, and go at it! swordsmen on its own is a much better PvE profession.

The big problem is this: Riflemen have a "to-hit" modifier against them. Unless she kites, and kites hard; it doesn't take long for her to get overwhelmed by melee' people. I'm Rifleman/TKM, and I assure you that when I fight another ranged prof, I go TK and make a beeline for them because I know that I can at least try to wreak some state havoc on them. True, Rifles are capable of great damage but on my server, most of the better PvPers have Swordsmen in their template. I figure that if she drops marksman altogether and just does a Swords/Fencer combo she might be better off. I'm not trying to debate you, as I came here for adivce, I'm simply laying out my logic in the situation

Oh, and as for the pets; most people seem to ignore them, but perhaps she just needs better ones. As stated above, I doubt she'll ever give up CH, so now we just have to find a way to keep her alive (hence this post)..lol

if thats the case then she should have no choice but to go m swordsmen, if for no other reason its to get melee mitigation 3. i was assuming that you pvp in groups and have melee ppl to fend off enemy melee. but if thats not the case and lots of your players on that galaxy are melee then she should do swordsmen, and something like 0/4/0/0fencer not sure how many skill points she would have but if she had more, something like 3/4/0/0 fencer
