Thread: 2H Lunge broken?

I recently started working up a heavy swordsman. As an master 2H Specialist, I do 200-300 on a good hit and from 500-900 on a spectacular special move.

HOWEVER: Should I use 2H Lunge, I do less than 10 points of damage EVERY TIME. I can pound on a durney for as long as my ham lasts if I use 2H lunge.

I have to assume the skill's broken since using it while chasing someone doesn't work and it doesn't do any real damage. If I'm mistaken, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

I always considered this move worthless until I had it used on me in PVP. Basically it can and does stop people from easily kiting you. Since the hit reduces posture and has a range of 14-15 meters, it is something to try when the marksman is running but is not yet too far away. However, if you use it to run up to a pistoleer, be ready for the inevitable KD! **edit** them and their melee moves, it's not right!

It's used for lowering the stance of the target (fyi, you and any melee attack must be done from standing) Only downside is that weapon ham costs are too high to use this alot.

Lunge's intended use is to force a target to kneeling from outside normal melee range, so you can catch up. It is not meant to be damaging. Its not meant to be used a lot. There was a time when it did full damage for average HAM, resulting in lunge-spam killing any melee mob without risk.

If you are already in melee range, use sweep or area attacks which lower posture. Lunge is meant to catch kiters, nothing else.

Now if it would actually have a timer in PvP so people would stay kneeling more than a second it might be useful.....

I've always thought that such moves should have a 50/50 chance of knocking someone down.

I'll have to give it a try again while chasing a kiter and see if it acutally knocks them down.

Thx

Well....i had my first real PvP experience last night as i wanted to see how all the stuff we talk about here looks like in-game.

The scenario was a rebels raid on Bestine.

It didn't last very long and wasn't really successful, but gave me enough opportunities to check out a couple of things.

Using lunge on a kiting player didn't really work out though, instead i got a live demonstration of the "out of range" issue

But then i'm probably also not experienced enough using it in those kind of situations. So far i basically only used it when for example another melee would tank a creature and i had for some reason to stay some distance behind and yet wanted to get some hits in.

Btw.....none of the kiting players managed to kill me. But then they might not have been experienced or powerful enough.

Have a great day

Yah, lunge 1 is only useful against NPCs, any player affected will just spam their stand up key and be off again. Only forces posture down, not knockdown, though it does have the same range. Also, since all the lunges(of the same level)are in the same skill box, and have the same effect, you can practise doing the following:

Switch to lowest HAM cost weapon (unarmed?)

Lunge with that weapon

Switch to you standard weapon

Could try making a macro, but since equipping doesnt queue I dont think it would work

2hLunge doesn't work super great. Its completely understandable though, since its the first 2h skill you get at Novice Brawler. Even if it lands, it won't work properly most of the time.

However, if you have Master Brawler, you get 2hLunge2, which is outstanding. It forces knockdown from about 15m away. The range is unreal. For duels, usually I play with the no knockdown rule, but I've caught a number of opposing faction pc's with this in PvP.

Example...I run up to a pistoleer kiting around and smack him with a mind bleed. He runs and tries kiting me shooting at me while running away. Poof- 2Hlunge2 knockdown. Run up to him, one HeadHit3 and its off to the cloning center for him.
