Thread: DPS and HAM costs

The currently popular DPS algorithm doesn't take into account the weapon's HAM costs.

To me, it is pretty obvious that lower HAM costs increases damage over time in the form of more styles over time, and styles can cause significantly more damage. Exactly by how much depends on a lot of variables.

So the current weapon DPS algorithm ignores weapon HAM costs and styles, which is a major source of damage... and therefore is a pretty defective measure.

Does anyone have a better algorithm to suggest, so we can get a better sense of the capabilities of our weapons to truly output damage?

Not sure I agree with you 100%, maby 98% =)

I agree the current ((min+max)/2/speed) dose not work for cross class wepons comparison against difrent skill atributs.

But-

I think it works just fine for inner-class wepon comparisons.

For me I normaly glance at the Ham's and do a quick add/compare, when I'm wepon shopping. but normaly the DPS vs Ham costs are so wack Ham is not an issue. Untell the Weponsmith method of experamenting Ham down is changed it's not worth the raw ratio of DPS to spend the experamenting points on to lower ham's by 1.

The thing is, almost none of us use any styles atm because the cost is too outrageous. So, frankly, most swordsmen don't care about HAM efficiency because it doesn't even come into play.

I agree with you in theory, but even after the patch that reduces 2H move costs, I fully expect to just sit there swining the vast majority of the time. When you have armor on and successfully Intimidate the mob, you just end up doing more damage to yourself than they can do to you by using styles.

I look at HAM costs -slightly-....

But thats because I'll solo Nym Brawlers or something and I use a 1-handed Dizzy+Lunge and switch to my 2-hande curve, sweeping whenever they stand back up.
