Thread: Does the damage mitigation depend on the weapon equiped?

I'm working on Swordsman and Rifleman, to get four mind bleeds.
As an added benefit, I would be able to get the melee and ranged damage mitigation.

the question is: do you have to have a particular weapon type equipped to get the effect? or is it there always?

There is a sticky post in the pistoleer forum where the correspondent asked the devs some questions. In that post it is mentioned that it is not weapon depended, i.e., its always on, no matter what weapon is used. Granted, this was before the patch came out, so who knows.

actually the mitigation is listed in the Swordsman's tree and under the description of mitigation its listed as "melee" so maybe it does have to do with using a the type of weapon equipted, which makes sense, because mitigation is made to reward those with Master combat professions, so why would a Swordsman mitigation 3 which is under Master Swordsman carry over to a n00b Rifleman profession when they have a rifle equipted?

Don't believe me? Fine.

"1) Perrish asked: "Any word on whether mitigations from multiple professions will stack? If you're master carbineer and pistoleer, is there an advantage in mitigation?"

DEV RESPONSE: "The Ranged and Melee Mitigation levels do not stack. Two level ones does not equal level two. Only the highest one is in affect. Ranged and Melee Mitigation can both be in affect if you have both from different profession. They are not limited by weapon equiped.""

I wish I had an edit button! So basically you have to earn the mitigation levels in each respective professions in order for them to work and they are automatic which is nice..............

hehehe....No......Once you get the Skill It is always there......Think of it like a Defense Stat, just like melee defense...except it doesn't stack with mods of the same name. To make it perfectly clear(...I hope )

If Somone is TKM and only TKM then they have an ALWAYS ON Melee Mitigation 3, Wether they are Holding A Vibro Knuckler, a Sword, A Grenade or a Riffle...It doesn't matter the Mitigation Is ALWAYS on and in Effect to Defend From Melee Attack. Melee Attacks will be Less Effective to thisPlayer While ranged attacks will Still hit for Full damage.

The opposite Can be Said for any of the Ranged Mitigation Professions: Defends against Ranged attacks Like Ranged Defense, Doesn't do Squat to defend Against somone hitting you with a Sword.

Now if you have BOTH, Master Carbineer and Master Swordsman for example, Then they are BOTH on ALL THE TIME, Again Just Like a Defense stat. It Doesn't matter if you are holding a Sword or a Carbine or a Riffle or nothing at all, You will get The benifit from BOTH Ranged Mitigation(Defense) and Melee Mitigation(Defense).

Was it Clear...or did i Confuse myself?

To put it simply, Ranged and Melee Mitigation DO stack, i.e. you can have both at the same time. Granted you have to get them from different professions but they do stack with each other. They also ONLY protect against attacks of the same name, i.e. ranged or melee.

Ranged OR Melee Mitigation DO NOT stack with themselves. So Melee Mitigation 1 from Swordsman does not stack with Melee Mitigation 3 from Fencer. Only the highest is ever in effect.

I hate how the best dodges and melee defenses go to Pistoleer a ranged class.

The swordsman's biggest weakness are ranged attacks. We have the lowest ranged defense of any elite brawler or marksman tree and no ranged mitigation. The only real defense is Center of Being. A well roundedbuild would include rifleman for mind bleeds and ranged mitigation or carbineer for stackingcounterattack and ranged mitigation. It's a nice choice to have available. I am finding that 90% of my incaps/deaths are from humanoid NPCs who keep their ranged weapons out and hit me withspecials like overchargeshot.
