It doesn't hurt in PvE to have defenses though. It wasn't too hard for me to fight Kungas with no armor on and only buffs when I was a master fencer/tka, and I rarely had to worry about dying as long as I had stim bs and too many of them didn't show up.

Melee defences make a huge difference IMO... I have noticed that mobs will hit you far less when you are capped on Melee defence. My current template is a only Master Swords with some crafting, and I get hit a ton. When I go out hunting with a friend who is stacked (both using swordsman to attack) I get hit alot more than he does.

he may, I do remember back when my jedi was a def stacker.... she didn't have Master Brawler and didn't get very much either, but then again that was before pub 10 went live and if it dosen't involve food I sometimes have a problem remebering it.

right now im mswords/mbrawl/doc so my melee defenses are pretty low, tanking an ancients they can hardly scratch me so i think its the toughness not the melee defense

Melee defense/ranged defense makes a difference, but if you fight high end mobs most of the time (read: Elders and Krayts) then it doesn't matter.

But against mid to low end mobs (NS Rangers, Outcasts etc, Aakuans, 15k HAM faction NPCs, etc) it will make a difference.

Right.. high level mobs have nearly flawless accuracy it seems. Usually enough to cut through your Counterattack as well.

The roll is Accuracy vs. Melee Def. so for PvP its very nice to have high Melee Def....For PvE specialy High End Mobs like Krayts/Elders forget about Def. They cut thru it like butter...By now my Mainchar is Master Brawler/Swords/Pike/Medic 2040 and some FS(Melee Spd+Acc) - Spd. capped with both - Swords and Pike...Im doing fine in PvE and PvP...In the end its not in the template...Its about HOW U CAN PLAY IT....
