I just realised, EVERY ranged profession hybird or marksman based apart from commando gets area attacks, and only pikes does for melee?! WHY whats the point, i wanna swing my hammer round some more and bash a few more heads per second, why'd melee get this sort of nerf?

It'd be realistic if melee got area attacks instead of Ranged. But pre-CU it was kind of overpowered in PvE.
I went from TKA Novice to TKM, and Fencing Novice to MF in 2 days with a full suit of Kinetic Composite, buffs and ahrisa/canape and vassarian brandy just spamming AoE moves with TKM and Fencer in the Jinda/Jinta caves on Endor.
Got about 100 Lootkit parts, which were selling for good then. And about 50 various colored crystals, which were also selling for damn good in 2 days.
Combat has changed alot now, it's alot more realistic and easier to die so I think we would be more warrented to get AoEs now then before.

if you really want it pick up some pike it compliments swords rather well if you have the sp

I don't know about pike being worth the points to dabble just for the AE. There are some nice mods there sure, but the AE isn't all that great. Atleast not compared to the way melee AE used to be, and definately not compared to ranged AE. Ranged AE does better than Melee for one reason, kiting.
Really the only usefulness of melee AE anymore is farming. Aside from that... if you're grinding and resorting to AE you're likely either going to die or need a very proficient healer.

I don't know if it's just me, I consider myself a pretty good pvper/duelist. My guild is at a friendly war and their ranged guys just tear me apart. I'll get them to about half health before they just run away and kite the hell out of me. One of them double snares with cm so I don't even get close to him. Is swordsman supposed to be this bad against ranged or..?
