Option #1: The 30-40 hit was while you were under the effect of CoB, the 130-140 hit was while you weren't.

Option #2: NPC mobs use the same special attacks players have, so maybe the 30-40 hit was a "rangedshot" and the 130-140 was a "criticalshot" or something. Although I admit most of my combat experience has been with creatures, so I may be a little off.

If you want to check your armor, set the option for "verbose" on the combat spam (it's something like that). That will include a sentence along the lines of "your armor absorbs123 of456 damage". The ratio of the absorbed damage amount divided by the total amount should be constant (your innate armor resistance) regardless of the attack type. Although elemental damage may throw that off. "Armor" clothing (gloves andboots) don't provide any armor protection (since they're no long valid hit locations) but may mess up TK's innate armor. Not sure about belts orubese shirts. PSGs definitely do not "turn off" innate armor.

Option 3 - A different weapon was equiped?

I take much more damage holding a sword rather

then being unarmed. When I'm just pure tanking

I allways switch to unarmed.

And For sure boots do cancel the inate armor.

Found this out the hard way

It's possible that the NPC used Armor Break on you. I noticed recently that there were times when my innate armor wasn't preventing much damage at all, so I looked at the combat log and saw that the bad guy had successfully used armor break on me right before the damage changes.
