Hi fellow Swordsmen,

I have just reached Novice Swordsman a while ago. I am still wearing simple costumes without any armour protection. I tried get hold of a set of composite armours and tried them, but even sliced, theywere draining too much of my stats to be any useful. I know doctor buffs/spice would compensate somewhat, but I don't have constant access tothese privileges.

I like to ask for some advice in armour selection, that is effective in protection for Swordsman without ridiculous encumbrance. I just get hold of a set of Ubesse but still have quite a drain in enc.

Thanks for any advice!

Generally speaking it is hard to give an advice about armor without knowing what you will use it for. PvP ? PvE against monsters/animals ? PvE against humanoids ?

If it's hunting animals, don't underestimate Mabari Armorweave. Sure it is "newbie" armor, sure it is/was ugly (not so now, when you can choose the color), but it is the lightest armor on earth, especially if you get it sliced (my sliced set, except helm, is like 100 enc in H, 80 in A, 40 in M and not all pieces are sliced for encumbrance), and you get the full benefit of light armor against kinetic.

Speaking as a Master Armorsmith and a former pikeman (ugh) The answer is: 71% Ubese, Novice Medic, Stim Bs.

If Swordsman moves take from the mind pool and I'm looking stupid, replace "Novice Medic, Stim Bs" with "Muon Gold".

The added protection as a novice is well worth it, and an adjustment of your attack methods will minimize the effect of the massive HAM hit you'll be taking by wearing it.

If you're not willing to adjust your game, do as the man says. Get Mabari or Voritor Bone. Have the armorsmith dump all the points into encumbrance. Since the kinetic resist is so low, a lot of damage is going to be passing through and the armor will wear out quickly... but it's so dang cheap it doesn't matter.

Oh, if you are going for PvP then the answer is always advanced, triple-layered composite with doc buffs and muon gold. But melee and PvP don't mix well enough for a Novice. I'd stick to guarding the inside of forward faction bases and leg-dropping prone riflemen... if you are going for pvp, that is...

I don't know what's available on your server, but I came across a set of 62% special to kinetic Chitin. The encumberance is mediocre, but I generally take it off after a fight in order to heal faster. I had a set of Ubese, it looked far cooler but the protections were significantly lower. I do almost all PvE creatures, and my Chitin has helped significantly.

If you aren't a doctor, use advanced ubese. If you are a doctor (or can get doctor buffs) use composite or even... advanced ubese heh.

I use Chitin with 35% kinetic resists. The only Ubese sets I've found have like 21% kinetic resists. I don't know if all the Master Armorsmiths never play, or if Gorath has worse armorsmithing resources than every other server, and I don't really care, all I know is that Gorath has horrible armor compared to everyone else.

Hi,

Thanks for all the advices. I have managed to get hold of an Ubesse set (with kinetic sp 45%-47%, i think it's above average) and im using it with some drugs.

It works great so far. Thanks for the tips!

The Ubese helm has a boatload of mind encumberance, I'd prefer them HAM sliced, or just a suit of adv Chitin with near 60% kinetic.

i use a mix of composite and ubeese (black so it looks nice =)

the ubeese i get on my server is a mix most items are 35-37% kinetic (yes low) abd about the same for other protections,

Example

Ubesse armor pants

KInetic special protection 37%

Effectiveness

En 36

blast 36

rest 36

acid 36

ele 36

My current mix of armor is

composite helm/gloves/arms/chest/boots

Ubeese bracers/legs

i take it off to regen but dont have to spice to wear it,

also, im a human and ive changed my stats around, i have what some consider weak primary ham for action and health but i can heal, and really, 100 hp is nothing really, esp in pvp when that master pistoleer/bountyhunter is shooting you for 500+ with a kryat enhanced scatter =(

Health 900

STR 480

con 440

Action 800

quick 480

sta 400

Mind 800

Focus 550

will 550

in pvp you need SOME medic skills, and if you want to solo you NEED medic skills, this armor and ham setup works well if you can heal, it has enough str/quick/focus you dont totaly kill yourself doing moves in armor, and since you can heal yourself durring and after fights the con/sta can be lower, mind is important, having good focus will seriously help for downtime,

with this setup and armor i do well vs CL 40-50 creatures tanking with no buffs .

Master brawler
