Thread: Thanks to a Holocron I am a Swordsman newbie
I have been playing for 3 months now and not once I did gather a single swordsman xp. Actually until I got the Holocron I did not even know HOW to get it. Took me like a hour to figure I can and HAVE to use that axe(?). An axe for a swordsman. Something smells wrong here.
Then I got the first sword and I love it!
So here are some newbie questions I have since I did not see a FAQ in this forum.
Is it reasonable to stick with the sword and not use the power hammer, since that is by far the strongest weapon. Are there Master Swordsman who still only use the swords?
Has someone already found the scythe which was hinted to be a quest item?
Can I use power ups on swords?
I've taken a look at the skilltrees and think I will go through Battlemaster first, since mind-damage can come in handy I guess. Is there an issue with those or are the other two(non combat xp) skill trees superior?
"I like swords!" - "Welcome to corneria!" (Couldn't resist
Welcome!
First off I personally used a "2hand curved sword" for most of the beginning of my carreer. You get get pretty good damage but moreover you can get them sliced down into the low 2 second range on speed. But thats just me. At Master I use a Power Hammer (PH).
Yes ! Power up can give you a huge advantage. You can use power ups to compensate for you weaknesses ei: HAM reductions or for rangeand/or power.
No one has found a Scythe to my knowledge.
As for which limb to take thats oft debated here. Some just fill each level as they go. I would stick to ones that give you mods rather that moves (finese aside but that doesn't compete since its combat points). The one problem we have with our tree is that most of our specials do the same thing.. posture down. Its on a 30 second timer and all it does is cause your opponent to kneel for about 4 seconds (one attack round).
You will end up using mind bleeds mostly when you get toward your Masters as that is our greatest strength.. that and hitting for some outrageous damage.
happy swinging! ![]()
Ok, it seems I always get the support classes lol.
Posture down is good thing if someone with dizzy is around, otherwise I don't see a reason to use it. Mind damage is cool if a Rifleman is behind you. So the one skill that can help me getting XP solo is bleeding. Like in every other combat profession I have had. :/
Then I will just grab the defense mods first, since I get incapped quite frequently.
Seeing your description, the sword I bought is pretty fast (low 2 seconds), though I still have to figure out which stats are really good.
Oh and action-costs are killing me, that's like in the good old carabiner days.
Now I got my first box in swordsman(from my left combat xp) I guess I will visit Yavin again, since many ppl here were suggesting that.
I started my brawler line with an axe, finished it with a curved sword and now use a heavy clever. I think most masters use a PH, but I am only a battlemaster, not a heavy sword master.
I buy my powerups by the crate. Less HAM cost and more damage on an already heavy hitting clever sways my odds a bit more.
As far as choosing the line up to battlemaster first, I dont think a single heavy swordsman out there would tell you different. With finesse 1 skill mindbleed and headhits you get there, it makes a swordsman fierce.
I think the greatest weakness of the master skill is the limited range, and that is only a deadly factor in PvP most times. Otherwise, the heavy swordsman is one of the best tanks around.
Any other suggestions for creatures which are neither aggro nor socials and wield at least 1k xp?
If you are already a Swordsman, Huurtons on dantooine are pretty good. They have a few thousand life, no armor, and little in the way of resists. They give around 1500xp when killed, and if you have sword finesse 1 all you need to do is mind hit 1then head hit 1 or 2and they will be dead in no time.
I hunt those things now, and I hit them with mind hit 1 and a head hit 2 using the power hammer, then switch to the 2-handed curved sword to finish them off. No pet is required to do this, but decent armor helps (I use a full set of stormtrooper armor).
I will try those out anyway, hope it works without using that ugly hammer.
Huurtons are aggro so I am not sure whether they really help each other or just attack because you are near. With regular huurtons I have never fought more than 2 adults at a time (the lairs spawn a lot of pups and babies) and they don't damage for a whole lot per hit. I usually end up fighting a small group of 1 adult and 2 or 3 pups/babies. I do get incapped once or twice per lair, but huurtons do not deathblow. I also have no pets or med skills, so if you have those it will be easier for you than me.
There are other places you could go for exp, and grouping is always a good option. I just happened to be "putting the hurt" on some huurtons right now to get some money and exp.
