ok, a little more unbiased:
TKM has state attacks, ie he can put stun, blind, dizzy etc, which is best for a KD/dizzy combo. TKMA also has much higher defenses than swordsman, like +70 melee and ranged defenses vs +20 on swords, plus states defenses. TKM can also attack any pool.
Swords has crappy state attacks which never seem to work, low defenses against anything, including states. swords can only hit mind and all 3 randomly (2H hit 3). however, swords has got 2 damage types (kin with scythe/sword, blast with hammer) against TKMs kinetic only. this helps lots against stuff with high kin defenses, especially NS with 100% kin
if you have doc, then the defenses shouldnt bother you too much, you can heal yourself as necessary (even novice medic is enough) and the extra damage type is very helpful. the hammer is a nice plus, it makes such a sweet sound lol.
hope that helps ![]()
"Master TKA, Brawler 4000"
Vs
"Master Swords, Brawler 0040"
The TKM path is the better template.
That is all you need for a respectable combat template for an earth-shatteringly-low: 92 Skill Points. There you can take on pretty much anything except the real "high end content". The reason you see so many TKMs about is it is definatly the best "bang for you buck" combat proffession.
BUT:
When you start to add template stacking into the equation... the swordsman diadvantages eventually "fade away" as asign more and more skill points to the proffession. Mastering swordsman is only a small and cheap first step on the path to the REAL master swordsman. and they outclass the TKM at virtually every turn.
It is your choice if you want to go for a pure combat proffesion or just something to join in the hunting and combat aspect of the game. I'll tell you thing though... a swordsman is far more fun to play
If you want my advice though I would master TKM first, and don't be too disheartened at the slow grind up to Novice TKA - there are plenty of tips for that on the TKA board. Once you hit that magic skill you suddenly start to get good... very good.
Mess around with TKM for a good while there is more to masterint a proffession than getting the skills - and then if you like the combat side of things and you fancy trying out swordsman get get yourself a few speed sliced swords/axes/Powerhammers and start up the long road to PvE mastery eventually dropping your TKA skills to a "defence stacking TKA 4304". You would be glad of the additional defences.
I'm contemplating dropping tka and going swords instead. The question is, which will take down a lair of mobs quicker - swords or tka?
Answers on the back of a postcard to... actually, just post 'em here please
For PvP TKA wins (of course
And for PvE... Swordsman - for sheer punch? Brute force and ignorance - thank the Force the mobs don't have brains?
