Current template is Rifleman/Doc

Template Change is Swordsman/Doc

Would it be a better PvP template?

your helmet resistance is most likely to low. you need a helm with high kin and blast to be ok vs a swordsman. plus if we get in close range we will probablykill alot of people. your a rifleman say out of melee range thats the point of your shooting range being 64m.

How do you (as a Swordsman) kill a Rifleman if he won't come in?


I don't think there are many more qualified than I am to comment on this, since I haveboth a Rifleman/Doc and a Swordsman/Doc. And I was amused to see that my instinctive response of "Hell, no" was the first response to your post


Swordsman/Doc owns PvE. Rifleman/Doc is a very good PvP template.

i will explain this without flaming, insulting or belittling your pvp skill and knowledge. I as a swordman laughs soon as i am in rifleman's face and dread it when they are aiming at me from 60m range. your template lacks the melee mitigation which means when you get swordman dancing in your face you can take up to 1000 damage a hit and thats with a regular power hammer with very good damage slice.


Your defect is that rifleman are pure range fighter and hince you are completly useless at close range very much as swordman are completly useless at range. If you want to take less damage then you would need to master a melee elite profession to gain melee mitigation 3. you can have 90% blast helmet and it wouldnt save you when you got a swordman in your face if you lack the melee mitigation


as for the question will swordman/doc be better than rifleman/doc in pvp? the anwser i would give is that it is very different. there isnt better or worst, but you'd take less damage. Swordman has a longer learning curve to really get it to shine (dispite many will disgaree with me and spam headhits 3 on me in these forum) i think rifleman has a shorter learning curve to make them effective. i think you just need to stick to your game, maybe get some terrain neg if you have problem keeping distance.


Swordman can be very good in thier own way but if you think you would get an easy ride as swordman, you are quite wrong

That's a wonderful PvE template - the two hardest-hitting profs in the game, and both focussed on mind damage.


It sounds great in PvP too, except your defences will be appalling. Specifically, it's really hard to stay on your feet with no significant defence vs Dizzy, KD or Posture down. And with no Doc to heal states, you could find you spend a LOT of time on your back.


IMO, Rifleman/Doc is better for PvP than Swordsman/Doc or Swordsman/Rifleman. They all have crappy defences, but at least with Rifleman/Doc, you can stay away from most classes that will KD you, and have a chance at getting back up and escaping if they do tag you.

Swords/Fencer/4304 TKA/Brawler is my current template, and the favorite of all the templates I've tried... Not sure how good it will be after the fabled rebalance, but the defenses it offers are great. The only minus is, you are at the mercy of a kiter. You'll have trouble with Pistoleers, because they're tough to KD, but if you can get a Dizzy/Posture change off on them, it's over. About the only other template I have trouble with killing is a Wookie stacker. Their HAM, and Low encumbrance/high resist armor make them really, really tough to beat. If you're planning on Jedi Hunting, you may want to drop to 4000 TK, and take up some medic, in order to be able to use Stim C's.


This template depends HEAVILY upon your play style, and takes a great deal of 'weapon management', due to the fact that you have different defenses with a Stun baton, than you do with a Scythe.


My usual method against ranged combatants is like this:


Start with Fencer

Intimidate

Blind

Stun

Dizzy

Lunge2

Switch to swords

Lunge2 (if they haven't fallen and started flopping)

Headhit3 until they're gone...

1:1 i killed some rifleman...its all about gettin into melee range...burstrun and a 20m ranged kd helps alot with this....was m-rifle few months ago...helps alot killing them now...
