Thread: Scythe.... is a polearm.... isn't it?
Completely agreed.
We need SWORD not shynte or hammer ...
There is a post inside this boards i really hope that devs take a look at Goreki's mail (if theay are not in dinner time), and i hope to see at least a 2handed Sword in novice Swordman specialization w/ similar stats of PH.
So we can use PH (blast type) Vs the turrets/at-st and co ... and the new sword (less damage (10%) more speed (15))
IMHO

I want my scythe... If they change it to polearm I need to take that too, then I'm novice tk, novice swordsman and novice.. whatever they are called.. pikeman or whatever

Pole weapon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A pole weapon is a close combat weapon with the main fighting part of the weapon placed on the end of a long shaft, typically of wood. The use of pole weapons is very old, and the first spears date to the stone age. The purpose of using pole weapons is to either increase angular momentum, and thus striking power, when the weapon is swung, or extending reach. Pole weapons are relatively cheap and simple to make, and they were fairly easy for most people to use effectively as they were often derived from hunting or agricultural tools.
Spears were probably first used as hunting weapons, either for thrusting or for throwing; the ability to strike the prey from a relatively safe distance no doubt appealing to the hunters. It was likely recognized almost immediately that they were also most useful against predators and other humans.
Massed men carrying pole weapons with pointed tips (spears, pikes, etc.) were recognized fairly early in the history of organized warfare as effective military units. On defense the men holding the spears were hard to reach; on the attack, as in the Macedonian phalanx, they were devastating to those units which could not get out of the way.
With the advent of armored fighters, especially cavalry, pole weapons frequently combined the spearpoint (for thrusting) with an axe- or hammer-head (for a swinging strike which could pierce or break armor).
Pole weapons include the spear, the lance, the halberd, the pike, the naginata, the SCYTHE, the poleax, the bill, the long war hammer and many, many more.
Pole weapons have largely been superseded by firearms. However, the bayonet attachment for a modern assault rifle can still be regarded as a form of pole weapon.

Wow, talk about goofing up bigtime. Not only the scythe but the power hammer..and the axe..and..our class?!?
I hope they can fix it..err make that 'wish they could'.
Thanks for the official information morell. I was just going off what I remembered from history class. So if it's an actual "Scythe" you would think it would be a weapon cert for the master polearm specialization (which currently has no wep certifications).
What they really need to do is change some of the weapons for 1h sword and 2h sword professions to actual swords instead of stun batons / gaffi sticks / hammers / axes etc. Or change the title of the profession to "2h Weapons Specialist".
Anyway they need to add more weapons for every melee class across the board. We're way too limited in our choices. I'd like to see them add weapon certs to the elite melee skill tree's, perhaps in the stances and grips tree line.
I'm just curious if someone can explain something to me. Historically the scythe is a polearm type weapon, it's held along the waist with hands spread wide (not with 2 hands on top of each other as swords / hammers are) so why is this certification in the master specialization for 2h sword?
Also, why is 2h sword the only profession that has 2, count them, 2 weapon certifications at master specialization in the brawler profession. While 1h sword has 1 and polearm has none...
Logically this would lead me to believe that someone goofed and the "Scythe" even though it is a quest item (like the rantok blade, the 1h master specialization cert in brawler) would be better suited as a certification for the master polearm specialization in the brawler profession.
If a Scythe was held the same way your 2h swords and hammers are, wouldn't that look kind of... goofy and not realistic?
I dunno it just doesn't seem to make much sense, that would be like holding a halberd like a 2h sword (cannot physically be done because polearms are so long and so heavy that you'd basically have to be heman to hold it that way). Not to mention theres no way you can use a scythe very effectively holding it like that...
Call me a sucker for realism.
But does it strike anyone else odd that the master polearm specialization in brawler has no weapon certifications, yet 2h sword is the only melee type that has 2 weapon certs on this skill bar?
Food for thought.
I'm kind of irked by the lack of swords in the Swordsman tree. I love the profession so far, no complaints there, it's just they aren't swords really. There are tons of swords out there, they could just keep the same stats and change the picture/name.
Powerhammer (our high damage) could become Great Sword
Two Handed Cleaver could become **edit**-Sword
Two Handed Axe could become Longsword
Heck, you could even throw a vibro in front of it to give it that Star Wars feel.
This is just nitpicky stuff though, I'd rather they fix everyone's professions first before doing aesthetic work. Not to mention, I don't want to lose my Powerhammer if it suddenly changes to a Great Sword instead of adjusting all currently existing ones.
I don't want to get any hopes up or down...i don't know more than you guys....but myfeeling is that they aren't gonna drop existant weapons and that some of the new weapons will certainly be new swords.
I hope though that they are not simply going to put new skins on existant weapon configurations...
Time will tell i guess....
hey don't go gtting them changing the weapons around. anyway the only one i think they goofed with is the power hammer because that is the only sertification in the swordman tree.
The other weapons are for the two handed tree not swordman yet. yu have to master 2hded weapons before you can go into becoming swordman.
and hey i want a sythe don't care if it's not a sword it's still cool. just can't wait till the quest for it comes out. and it better be a good weapon
