Thread: melee professions backwards
i might just be nitpicking here but does anyone else think the damage areas for all the melees are a bit messed up? fencers hit the chest, 2 handers hit the head and pikes hit the legs.... well they got pikes right
but it is a bit harder to hit somone in the head with a big ass sword then it is to hit them in the head with a smaller sword. i think it should have went
fencers get mind line of attacks and 2 handers get chest line of attacks.
let me know what you think??? have i finally lost my mind???
i agree with you there nagorak. i have studied fencing (mind you i have never doneproper fencingbefore) but fencing is about parlay, and trying to hit the body. with a pike, or a lance, you try to take out the legs so you can hit the persons neck while they are on the ground. (i study forms of combat with weapons so i know alot about such.) and with a large two handed weapon, you are there to cause massive amounts of damage to whatever you hit, with many attacks focused on the head because it is a good target, to cleave a mans (or in the games case humanoid's) skull. or crush it.
i have done all three forms of combat while goofing arround with friends of mine...
I can agree with all of you on some degree. I study a form of Kenjutsu in real life and from my experience there are all types of attacks to all extremeties of the body. I think the Dev's failed to realize that ANY type of warrior is going to have enough sense to know where and how to attack his current enemy. In my form of swordsmanship, we are taught to attack with single killing strikes; usually to the neck or the torso. The head is made of BONE and is a less attractive target since it IS a lot more difficult to lop off a head then to attack the body/limb. However, the ENTIRE body is a target and one must make his attacks to suit the situation he finds himself in. Personally, I think that the class needs a more defined Cleaving attack that is a much more focused and powerful strike. We have the two-handed hit techniques, but these don't fully realize the idea behind a two-handed sword. Alternatly, in my school of swordsmanship we are taught strikes to the legs which would cut tendons and effectively knock the enemy down. Why is this not reflected in SWG? We have posture change attacks, but those are effectively useless against ranged opponents since they can just shoot at you from a crouching position.
As we are, I think the swordsman are an adaquete class to play. I love playing mine, but I think we need a LOT more weapons added to our current set (of what, 2 actually useful weapons?) as well as a couple new techniques to add a bit of variety and utility to our class. This is aside from all the BUGS of course
