Thread: Need Opinions on Template, Defense vs. Offense

Hi all, I've had a pretty solid PvE template for some time, but I'm looking to gear a bit more toward PvP soon. I had a couple of ideas and questions that I wanted to run by everyone here to get some opinions.


Here is my current template:

Master Swords

Fencer 4000 (extra Melee/Ranged Def)

Doc 0440 (able to buff, I know I should get 4040 for healing DOTs but my playtime is limited and I can't spend half my time waiting for buffs)

FS Speed, FS Accuracy, FS Melee Def, and last point into FS Ranged Def 1


This gives me +119 Melee Def with a +10 on my shirt, +99 Ranged Def with Aakuan Rings, +95 2h Speed with FS and +8 speed on my shirt. Not much Def vs KD/Dizzy but with Doc I can get rid of dizzy more quickly than they can keep it on me. I love the mind damage of swordsman, but DOTs are the name of the game for the most part and are pretty much non existant for 2h weapons. However I do have a good number of very nice DOT pikes I've looted from NS and have been thinking about adding Pike to my template.


Basicly my template would stay the same but I'd drop Fencer 4000 for Pike 4000 so I could get the speed to swing the pikes fast enough to be worth it. Unfortunately this would drop my Melee/Ranged Def to just +55/+30 with my extras which is a significant difference, but with my 2 mind fire pikes, and 1 poison I can stack almost 900 damage per tick on mind. I'm thinking that since I have doc I'll be ok losing the defense, but in everyones opinion how much of a difference would it make to lose that much Melee/Ranged Def both for PvP and PvE, and would this be a good trade off for the offense I'll gain or am I better off with the defense?

Here is my solution to a PvE/PvP template. I think it is quite effective.


Master Swords

Master Brawler

Pistols 0040 (Ranged Mitigation 2, geo and rep blaster, all the state defences of fencer)

Smuggler 0030 (you really only need 0010, the rest is a place to stick points)

Pike 0040 (Defences vs States, and toughness so you dont get smoked while you have a pike out)

FS speed 3

Medic 2000 (you can drop FS speed to 1, and Smuggler to 0010 and go Medic 2030 for stim c's)


If your main hunt is PvE, you dont really need the ranged and melee defence since krayts and sisters will hit you regardless your defences. Against PvP, my philosophy is, if you can't get 125, dont even bother.


A SEA here and there, and you will have 90-100% to on all but blind (you can get this to 95) intim and pos down. I have an exceptional 690 str mind poison pistol and +16 pistol speed, so pistol is very useful to me. I can solo 4-5 night sister elders before my BF sends me home. I have yet to solo a stunner or a power hammer fairly (sure is nice having the imp prison right there). I imagine i could, it would just be a very, very close call.


I know it hurts like hell to drop doc, especially if you are an auto buffing doc. I don't know how things are on your server, but on Kettemoor, there is almost always at least one master doc in the coronet starport anytime the server is up. If the lines are huge, just shout you will give 100k to the doc who buffs you for2500+ NOW!! Fencer/swordsman/whatever tags will come out of the woodwork and buff you.

Drop the line in fencer and go for doc 4440....the line in pike wouldn´t help that much...u lack speed and accuracy...it would only be goodtorise thedef. vs. stats...but since u are a doc u can heal those stats...
