Output : The problem with 2H is the delay, when misses are queueing you are getting in troubles, perhaps the total average of a 2H is superior for balancing those misses.

Input : This is the point ! Why an analyse about output if we don't consider input ? Rooted, the mob will be a sitting duck with a range weapon, not with a 2H, and I don't even consider the fear line of range support.

I am a CH swordsman (+2) and Pistoleer (+0) and I must make a choice : it will be the pistol, I hate it but I must and as a soloer there is no hesitation.

Yes 2H has a better output but is definitely weaker imho.

Please dear CH friends and 2H lovers, make me change my mind !

I don't think any sword matches the damage-per-second of a really good scout blaster.

But like the other guy said, you also have to consider that a swordsman is always being attacked, whereas a pistoleer can kite, warning shot and otherwise avoid damage. I find that as a swordsman, even a retreating creature will keep hitting me, and I wrack up a lot of wounds in the normal course of fighting.

Pistoleer also has the "melee defense" attack (pistol whip) that enables him to solo redcons in melee, because the attack keeps knocking them down.

So pistoleer > swordsman. In PvP, a pistoleer will actually defeat a swordsman in melee combat.

Which goes to show how broken the system is.

I think everyone is going to say I'm crazy but I deleted my pistoleer and rerolled a 2handed swordsman 4 days ago muahahah!! and I'm loving the 2h swordsman (although I do think it needs alot of work)..I do hit alot harder and when getting hit I take way less damage than my pistoleer with good padded armor. kiting was never a big thing for me I always got way more xp in a small group of 2-3 people (TKA's mainly)

Considering if each had the best weapon a novice can have which class has the natural potential to do the most damage...pistol or swordsman?

This question kinda depends on the range. If the battle starts at a range then the pistol is better. If its close range then the 2hander wins. As a swordsman I can solo yellows and reds with ease. Don't believe everything you read concerning this. I know that pistoleer has a knockdown but if you go master brawler you have one too. Plus with pistol you will take more damage the with sword. I have yet to see a pistoleer at an even level do the kind of damage I can get from a sword. If someone duels me first they are dead. Thats basically it. If I duel someone else and they can evade me long enough to get a few shots off then I lose. You are not crazy at all Tavalisk but to let you in on a secret fencing is faster and better than 2hand. This will be tweaked im sure but with a good vibroblade and the 2nd hit you get at novice fencer you will beat the damage of someone with a more powerful 2hand weapon and the same level attack. Plus you will probably hit twice for every time the 2hander hits and the h/a/m cost will be 1/4 or so what you get with the sword. If you don't believe me try it. I generally will use lunge2 then 1hand melee2...this normally will do the job but I think I am going to change to lunge2 then the bleeding attack that causes all the wounds since I have that now and then finish them with melee2.
