They are cheap and easy to find and much faster than anything else for the price. Once your speed capped Hammer all the way except for blast ressist critters. For those use a scythe blade.Executioners axe might be a decent weapon after the revamp but scythe and hammers are much better overall right now.
Now what weapon should i use... got a 30% dmg slice on my hack :/ 28% Dmg On The Scythe and my curved is 1.7. I found myself much faster and stronger with my scythe though.. any complaints or anyone know?? Because when I was GRINDING up to Master, I didn't want to waste my good hammers. And AGAIN, the questions was curved sword or hack! Not which weapon of all the weapon a swordsman can use should be used. Geez.

good slice with the scythe... you are correct, this will your most powerful PVE weapon at master, generally speaking you can almost speedcap w/ master swords and master brawler giving u a high damager per second making you very efficient.
most people would discourage using the scythe to grind because of the limited amount in circulation being a "unique" item, and I can't blame them.
What it comes down to is numbers..... i really recommend you use that DPS calculator and use whatever give u the best results (aside from the scythe). until you reach master you are losing possible attacks with the PH because they are considerably slower. I have a 3.7 AS hammer (which is pretty fast)and it still doesnt outdamage my scythe, but i'm master swords/brawlerso i use it for PVP because it does blast damage... and generally speaking no one has "blast" for the special protection so its usually more effective.
anyways... we can't give u "use this now then use this then" because your weapons can very a LOT, you need to figure out whats going to give you the best edge for DPS. I know that's not what you probably want to hear but it's numbers, it's all it is. compare your DPS for all your weapons and pick the best. i'd recommend not using the scythe till master to save condition, but that is also up to you.

um no at master with +75 speed you'd need a 1.3 speed scythe to hit speed cap

True, but why waste your scythe on grinding? Rather save my scythes and Hacks on high end mob, not grinding fodder. LOL didn't you want an opinion between the sword and the Hack anyway LOL?
so at 0-4-0-3 you won't be capped at all!!!
