Thread: Which Profession with Heavy Swordsman?

Well, this seems to be template sharing thread, so I'll share mine, w/reasons, but first, I'll comment on the shockey's template.


I don't know enough about Pikeman, and how that would be effective. So I would suggest Carbines or Fencer, depending on how much you think kiting is an issue in PvP.


I'd suggest Fencer, because w/Fencer, you'd get some good defenses, and if you'd also get the ability to use a stun baton. Good for PvP. As a Melee class, you'd be able to target w/Blast, Stun or Kinetic. Pretty good combo I think.


I'd go Carbine if you are worried about kiting issues in PvP.



For my Template, this is what I got...


Master Swordsman - Fencer:Stances 3 - Medic: OrgChem 4 - Scout : Explore 2, Hunt 4 - Master BE


I haven't yet completed my template yet, so I can't comment too much. Swordsman are one of the coolest lookin Melee classes I think. The 2Handed Curved in combat is cool lookin. I'm a Master BE by trade, so that is the reason for OrgChem and Hunt. I picked up Explore for MaskScent (and Terrain too). So Why Fencer? Well, it is the most defensive of all the Melee classes, and at Novice, you can use a Stun Baton. With my template, based on the char-builder I used, I'd have


74 Melee Def

69 Ranged Def


Which I'd say is pretty decent for a Swordsman, and I can choose to hit with Kinetic, Blast or Stun.

Aloha Folks,


I have started on Heavy Swords, and also have some questions in regards to my template.


I am currently TKM/Master Rifleman/Swordsman 0404/Novice Medic.


The big debate I have now is: Should I go all the way to mastering Heavy Swords? If so, my final Template will be MHS/Master Rifles/TKA 4404...or MHS/Master Rifles/TKA 4004/Novice Medic. Or should I stay at TKM/Rifles/Swords 0404 (or even 4404 w/ no novice medic)?


The reason for the change for me is that, in my opinion, TKA lacks the awsome damage that I would be able to deliver w/ Heavy Swords. I have been PvP almost daily for the last 2 months, and I rarely use TKA other than trying for a KD/Dizzy. The problem, especially lately, is that KD/Dizzy has been nerfed (you rarely land KD + Dizzy) and w/ the addition of KD resistant foods KD is less of a problem. Also of not, KD's are not the end all be all "win" button, and many players are learning this also. If you keep your head after being KD'd, you can often stand up w/in 2-3 tries and thereafter can lay a serious smackdown on someone.


Because of this, and the capping of defenses, I think damage or DPS, is now going to be the deciding factor in PvP.


Also, I was getting a bit bored w/ TKA, I mostly use rifles in PvP now anyway.

the counterattack bonuses from carbineer are completely negligible now that defenses are capped, but its still tons of fun. i'm doing 2 lines of fencer to augment my defenses as well.

Balute: what I am seeing lately is thatif you can turn things into adamage contest and compromisetheir damage output, you win


here's what I would suggest:go ahead and master Swordsman, and throttle back to 4120 TK (even better, 4220 TK if you can come up with 4 more skill points, so your unarmed toughness = your two handed toughness)


meditation 4 is indispensible, of course, but power tech 2 is very nice, because with a speed sliced vk,you can apply unarmedstun1 once a second or damn close to it


firstintimidatethem tohalve theirdamage outputand turn off their dodging. intimidate works out to 30m,use this to your advantage


then land stun on them to cut their damage in half*again* (just try itif you don't believe me). italso ruins theirmelee defense so they areeasier to hit...then cave their head in with a scythe blade

My template is a nice one... with a few tapes ive maxed out both melee and ranged defence, have both melee&ranged mitigation3, and can hit the mind in ranged and melee...
And dont forget powerboost and meditation 4 (for wounds)
And its very versitile....
