Thread: thoughts about the dual weild, fencer or swordsman?
I think you guys are missing the same point that the devs missed when they designed our weapons:
We are SWORDSMEN, not Heavy-Weapon-Users.
If you can put a **edit**ing power hammer in a "Swordsmen" class, then you can **edit** well put ina two-swords weapon.
I'd like to see a realistic approach to dual wield.
No MMPORGS so far, or D&D for that matter, have got dual wielding right. Dual wielding IS NOT AN OFFENSIVE TECHNIQUE. Using two swords is DEFENSIVE in nature. The primary advantage granted by using two swords is not increased attack ability, but the doubling of steel potentially able to block a strike. A two-handed sword has much greater damage capacity than two one-handed swords each used in one hand.
The correct way to think of a second sword is like a more precise shield - harder to use but more durable and effective. You can see this play itself out in traditional japanese martial arts - nodachi (longer swords)are offensive, katana are neutral and kodachi (shorter swords) are defensive in nature when used in pairs.
Looked at this way, it's pretty obvious this fits better with fencers. Two-hand swordsmen are offensive in nature. No one will dispute this fact. Dual wielding is not offensive in nature. Hence it doesn't belong.

Dandys? Ill admit that fencers are lame dandys lol, BUT dual weilding should be for us and not them. We are the STRONG swordsmen not the WEAK dandys. Thus we have the strength needed to weild two swords. Ever seen kenshin the anime? Well toward the middle of the series theres this guy who weilds a kobai ashi with 2 hands. Kobai ashi is a sword smaller then a katana but bigger than a dagger. Basically mid ranged sword. Well this guy eventually gets pissed and starts weilding two of them to get more powerfull. AND NEVER was the man doing dandy pissant stabbing attacks. So you and everyone on your side of this debate is just completely wrong, seeing as how fencers arent even strong enough to lift 2 swords at the same time, let alone fight with them.
First of all, shame on you for watching Japanese animation.
That having been said, there is no such word/term in Japanese as "kobai ashi". I suspect you misheard the name "Kobayashi".
You seem to be describing a wakizashi.
Allow me to dispell some another myths you might have learned from anime and have come to believe about Japan:
There are no demons wearing crystal tiaras, huge battling robots, or people getting nosebleeds every time they see a pretty girl.

Im soon gonna be a TKA novice..... If duel will come - I will take the proffesion with it..... If fencers get duel - I take fencer and visa visa... But in my opinion there should be for both classes! If they can share the weapon "Sword" They should also be able to share the weapon "Sword duel weilding"
All professions get "duel". Visa visa!

Yes, shame on you.
Shame on you for being so much of a loser as to correct my spelling on a japanese word.
Somehow, being called a loser by a fan of Japanese animation does not have much sting to it, but I digress. I did not correct your spelling of a Japanese word. I ridiculed you for making one up based on your watching of Japanese animation.
sorry...I just had to add this:
It all comes down to simple math. 1h + 1h = 2h. Therefore 2hand swordsman should be able to use 2 1hand weapons.![]()
Weapons styles are more than simple math evrardo. Fencers use one handed weapons. Swordsmen use two handed weapons. If you use two one handed weapons at the same time they are still one handed weapons. What use are one handed weapons to someone who specializes in two handed weapons?
Not only is this "1+1=2" idea wrong, but it can also be switched around. How many swordsmen would want fencers tobe ableto use power hammers, cleavers, and two handed curved swords because "2=1+1"?
Swordsmen use weapons that require two hands,so anythingthat doesnot require two-hands to useis not a swordsman weapon. The only way you would be able to duel wield swordsman weapons would be to have 4 arms like goro, andseeing goro running around in SWGbevery "unstarwarsy" to say the least.

Kind of like how hockey players can play with two sticks, eh?
