Thread: Floating Damage Number Not Consistant with Chat Window

Anyone else see this? I started with 2h and a heavy axe. I noticed sometimes that the damage numbers that float above the mob's head are (larger) than the ones depicted in the chat window. When I switched to a 2h axe I noticed a much larger variation between the two. As in I will swing for 304 in the chat window, while the floating damage number is actually 545.

I don't see this problem with unarmed, 1h, polearm, or pistol.

I have noticed the same thing, i just assumed it was their defense or something taking dmg off of what the hit did. However i have no idea if that is correct.

I had the same thing happening last night... with my rifle. Not sure if it's a bug or what is going on with that.

I believe the floating number is the damage you really did to it after weakness/protections happen. I noticed whilei was fighting a swoop leader letting it hit my gronda(gronda have armor 1 and 50% kinetic/energy so they take damage good)pet that the window said like 140 damage but above pet was -30 with its protections and hardly lost life for a 1100 ham pet at the time.

Was anything else hitting it? Sometimes those numbers are the sums of several hits.

The number over their head is damage dealt.. the number in chat window is how much damage you rolled on the shot unmodified by anything else.

Just like when you swing or shoot someone and it says "You shoot whatever for 657 points of damage but it evades".. and above the beastie you just see *evade* float up.

And the bonus damage could quite possibly be rifle users.. Remember anyone holding a rifle takes double or triple damage from any melee attack.

ha well that's nice, now i have to watch temporary floating numbers that are unlogged (for parsing) over the head of my target to find out how much damage I actually do to a target.

That makes me wonder how accurate the combat window is on the damage I'm taking as well. I'll be watchin the numbers above my own head to see how they compare to the combat window.

Bear in mind that even though you might target an enemies specific pool (health, action or mind) you actually damage all 3. Notice how even a mind hit drops their health and action a little?

I'd assume the damage reported in the chat window is the combined total and the damage you see above an enemies head is specific to the pool that took the largest hit.

Thats inaccurate. The reason they lose mind/health if you hit action for example is because their specials cost them HAM. Watch their HAM when they attack you, when they attack it goes down just like yours.

As for the #s, those #'s represent the damage you do before armor/absorb reduction. The chat represents the actual damage.

Hmm, I've never seen a mob take damage attacking me.

In fact I'm certain they don't. Many times I've been attacked by multiple mobs and when I switch to the second after killing the first they are at full health.

And also, have you tried a ranged attack on a melee mob? They take damage to all 3 pools even though they aren't close enough to attack you.

How is that inaccurate?
