Thread: SWORDSMEN'S ROUND TABLE: 10 questions

Hiya all,


doing some "overtime" here


As you might have seen on other boards we've been asked to create a thread to collect our communities' top 10 questions.


As usual feel free to post away your questions, i would suggest though to avoid stuff like "When will...", "Why is profession A better than B..." - type of questions, because i think this is a good (and so far very rare) opportunity to have some of our technical / game mechanics questions answered.

1. will accuracy be addressed in the coming combat changes - most of our weapons have some pretty horrible accuracy. i know a lot will change when defense mods are change but curently we have a real problem connecting in pvp


2. was melee mitigation intended to hurt the powerhammer and the 2 hand curve sword - two of our best weapons?


3. what kind of status effects will the swordsman have? currently we have a DOT bleed but no Stun, dizzy, blind, knockdown ect.


though area3 does tend to dizzy.


are there new status effects coming for us or will we be assigned some of these others?


4. are there any plans to give us any special swordsman abilities like Force of Will or Meditation centered on damage? i think a lot of us have mentioned critical strike powers and such in focus threads.


5. is the scyth intended to be our PVP weapon of choice?


6. is there any plans to add rare Powerhammer drops in any of the LOOT REVAMPing that is coming?


maybe a dungeon centered around 2 hand sword dot weapons ect.


7. our defense is currently very very bad. i know all of this will change in the combat revamp but do the devs want swordsman to be weak in the defense department? doesn't an elite brawler imply the toughness and the ability to take damage. i don't think any of us want to be the games tanks - but the games damage dealers - but we can't deal damage if we die in a few hits.



8. are there any plans to revamp some of our animations? some of them aren't so great and make us look pretty clumsy


yes we deal damage but we should do it in style


9. does Q-3po really not know that pikeman exist? (little joke from a pike thread)


10. are there any plans to make pikeman and swordsman a closer combo and compliment each other more - in the same way that fencer and tk work together?

One correction,both Hit3 and AreaAttack3 will cause dizzy. However, the question is still valid.


I would like to add to this as to a query as to why the in-game description of AreaAttack3 says it will Blind multiple targets when, in fact, it does do Dizzy.

1. How do you intend to address the melee kiting situation, or is it intended to be that way?


2. Damage mitigation has put a wider gap between melee and ranged, as a melee fighter atempting to close the distance with a ranged fighter i will take more damage and die faster than a ranged atempting the same thing. Is it really fair to force melee fighters to go up one branch of a ranged profession so that they can recieve less damage by getting the advantage of a ranged mitigation?

I dont like the negative ranges in the slightest bit. I'll see what i can get changed from the weapons crafting side to negate these modifiers. It will probably be on new weapons only.


How come the Sycths accuracy varys from -15 to +10 as stated by TH? This is not a good sign of things to come.


4. How come damage mitigation only effects the max value damage number? With weapons that have a wide damage output range we get our damage outputreduced significantly more than others.


5. Why does toughness only effect melee damage? Isnt melee damage mitigation and toughness redundent then?

Would it be agood use of a question toask about getting anAP3 weapon? I mean Swordsman is somewhat analogous toRifleman, both are heavy hitting professions that target mind, yet we don't get Heavy armor piercing. It seems a bit inequitable that no melee profession gets AP3... what do you think?

1. will we ever be able to scabbard our swords? [wear them on our back or hip when not in use]


2.will we ever get a decent sword for swordsman?
The scythe is a brawler weapon, the only swordsman elite weapon is a hammer.


3.will we ever get an AP3 blade?
I think we should have a master cert for such a weapon.


4.Will counterattack ever work as a counter?
Currently i can see no difference between this and block/dodge


5.will Rancor teeth ever be changed to an enhancement?
currently they are a replacement, these should be more like krayt tissues. a pure bonus


6.will we ever get different damage types?
all we have is kinetic and blast, i can easy see ways for us to get cold,heat,electicity, stun etc


7.will our special's descriptions be re-written?
or possibly redone, so we know what we are capable of.


8.will 2handed loot become more regular?
i for one have never looted anything of use.


9.will there ever be a master sworsman themepark?
Such as the RIS task for the armoursmith.


10.will we ever get a decent sword for swordsman?

I know this is point 2, but i feel its so important it should be asked twice.



All i would need to make me VERY happy is to have a new sword cert put in at master swordsman.
A speed=6 AP3 HAM=as hammer DAM=300-600 monster


theres far too much hype about the scythe, i want a true swordsman weapon that IS an actual sword.

1) Will accuracy be addressed in the combat review, if so, will it only effect new weapon (newly crafted) or existing weapons?


2) Are we going to see some ability to 'catch' kiters?


3) Are we going to see new and unique attacks? Or at least a revamp with different effects on the existing attacks


4) Is our defence / melee toughness / damage mitigation going to get some love?


5) Are we going to see some new and interesting weapons (except the scyth)


6) After all the In concept threads, will we see some sort of 'developer conclusion' thread which tells us what the devs think is what we want. Simply because what we want, and what you think we want, maybe compleatly different!


7) Pikemans a class?? (J/K)


8) Will we get different damage type weapons (eg cold, heat, electric etc)


Cant think of anything else!

Quick note about the scythe, Thunderheart stated;

* Because we've left it a beefy weapon, its now certified for level 3 Swordsman.

Now, as it currently stands, the scythe is certified at 2handed IV, not technically in swordsman anywhere, so my guess is it's being moved into the swordsman tree so hopefully it will become our defining weapon over the power hammer, depending on whether we find it does more damage or not - if you can hit the speed cap with a power hammer, there isn't much advantage to using a faster weapon, you might as well stick with the high damage tool.

Im agreeing with various questions already posted, namely:


- Will we ever get sword sheaths?

sheathing/unsheathing a sword itself has so many possibilities for gameplay.


- Will we get state-effect specific hits?

We have6 multiple-target hits, and I'd never want to agro all the creatures around me if my pet is doing the tanking, so Ill hardly ever USE them to begin with. We could probably do (novice swordsman speaking though) with replacing area attack 1-3 with a stun hit, a blind hit and a knockdown. I like being a Master Brawler, so I already have a knockdown and using other weapons, a stun and a blind, but I might need the skillpoints some day.


- Will counterattackactually counter-attack?


- Will webe able to meditate?

Meditation is vital to the being of any martial artist, though I agreeany martial artist will have a good unarmed style as well, andif you have that in SWG, you can also meditate.


(I can also answer one question listed: Is there a way to catch a kiter?
burstrun to him and perform a sweep or lunge (orif you have a knockdown, use that naturally)people don't expectfor you to burst run, so they won't realise their only chance is to burst as well before it's too late for them, not guaranteed to work )

Mmm, what I dont get about Counter attack is in the combat spam, it says "You hit x for y damage, but they counter attack"


Dont that kinda imply that you hit them, andthen they hit back??

counterattack appears in the combat spam, but thats it. it might as well say miss/dodge/block/evade


the idea of counterattack should be getting a free blow in when it happens.

1. Why does blast damage do half damage to structures? (this bothers me to no end, same thing with launcher pistol)


2. Will counterattack ever.... counter attacks?


3. Will status affects stop going through counterattack?


4. Will armor piercing ever work in PvP against unarmored opponents?


5. If DOT's are now susceptible to resists, will the bleeds also receive bonuses from AP?


6. Will mitigation ever shaft TKA as much as it does every single other combat class?


7. Will negative accuracy on melee weapons(nod to pikes here) ever go away?


8. Will melee weapons in general ever get any sort of respectable optional upgrade components?
