Thread: Getting around the huge HAM costs?

So I love swordsman but the HAM costs on my hammer and scythe prevent me from really taking advantage of the profession. I hate having to stop using specials for fear of running out of mind.


So how do the rest of you get around this, if at all? Are your minds mitigated a certain way (I am full mind, but my mind secondaries are not)? Do you only use a certain type of attack cuz it does less damage?


My ham for the hammer is 115/36/24 and my scythe i dont know, but i know its less and I think typical of normal scythes, at least on the kauri server.


Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated, and save your flames etc for another thread plz.

Try getting a full musician & doctor buff, migrating your stats to mind. That should leave you witha 2 to 3 mind cost on all specials, if not no mind cost.

If you can't get a mind buff, drink one brandy and eat 2-3 ahrisa at 33fill each, or get some good canape. You will have no HAM cost on anything.

You should also look into getting a different hammer, those are horrendous HAM costs, at least on our server. Find the top weaponsmith on your server and find out what stats his hammers are. My hammers are all 12-13 mind cost, with brandy and all stats migrated to mind it costs me about 2mind points per swing. which is easily regenerated.

The magic number is 1500. If you can get your Focus up to 1500 you will suffer from no loss of mind due to specials. I found this information on the Carbineer forums, but it rings true

1400 being the magic # (I always thought it was 3 but oh well):

1) get a buff and put on your armor.
2) look at your mind encumbrances. Focus is what you need to be 1400.
3) Get a stat migration accordingly. I find that 1400 is not that criticle though.


If I get my focus (with 1 brandy) up to at least 1000, I like to put the rest into willpower.
I find that the extra regeneration helps just as much, since you are going to get hit in the mind sometimes

Correct me if I'm wrong but 12-13 Hammers are actually Ackley Hammers. I can't use a regular Hammer any more, it's just too hard on the HAM.

Best way i found is to get entertainer buffs (mind, focus and will) and then go out and drink 2 brandy and an ahrisa. this way your mind stats are almsot as high as your HA buffs will be.

on my server there is a master dancer/musician who is always aroudn buffing for free. try to find one like this person on your server and your set

I do a lot of what was said above but I also use a max dam/mind ham power up on my weapons. It is not a huge boost but it does help. Of course I would probably be better off with accuracy powerup, just too lazy to make them.

ut mind secondaries at max. put remainder on mind main


scythe will run my mind dry I swing it so fast. Hammer get my health (103) but it saction and mind are not bad at all.


use brandy and buffs. the only time I fight w/o buffs are friendly duels beforeI find a doc I am buffed 95% of the time.

so your mind secondaries are maxed but mind main is not?


i run dry even with buffs and food, trying to figure out how not to

Canape's and Brandy seem to work for me with high HAM costs of my hammer Other than that I
can't suggest anything else
