Thread: Riflemans Melee Defense twice as high as Swordsmans ??

Just today i realized that the Rifleman, as THE ranged Profession in the Game,
has a melee Defense of 40 !

The Swordsman has a melee Defense of 20 !

How can this be justified ? Is the RM blocking blows with his precious T21 ?
I really don't get it.

Don't get this wrong, I like the Swordsman. I think its quite nice as it is right now.
But how can it be that a specialized sanged Fighter has a higher melee Defense
than a specialized melee Fighter.

Swordsman is awesome in any way. But it needs dabbling with Fencer and TKA defenses.

Grrr...


Having some melee defense doesn't mean much to a rifleman, we don't get melee mitigiation 3, toughness, CoB, intimidation. We get hit, we die unless we have the typical godlike doctor buffs which will certainly be nerfed.


As a master rifleman, I'm constantly watching swordsman completely dominate the PvE world, as strong as a T21 is, I can't produce anywhere near the devastation of a master sword with a power hammer.


I don't like calling for nerfs, but I don't understand why a class that is not even part of the star wars cannon or extended universe is the best PvE class in the game.


Coming here and complaining about some other class when you are already godlikeis a bit annoying.

Someone got me wrong...

Im not complaining about the Rifleman, or about how the Swordsman is.
Like I said, i like like the Swordsman the way it is.
And nobody can tell me that the RM is weak, he's the Nr.1 Damagedealer in the Game.

The only thing i complain about is the inconsistency of the system.

RM is a specialized Ranged Fighter
SM is a specialized Melee Fighter

RM should loose the moment it comes to close combat.
Just like the SM should loose in ranged Combat.

So why has the RM twice the melee defense the Swordsman has ?
SM does not have twice the ranged defense the RM has. its just inconsequent.
I dont want to have the Ranged defense, i just want to show how stupid this is.

I don't call for a nerf of the RM.
(There will be one and i'm ok with it, but i'm not calling for one)
I don't call for making the SM stronger.
(There will be a nerf for him too, and i'm ok with that as well)

All i was complaining about is, like i said, the inconsistency of the system.

IMO u need Fencer and Pistoleer...With Pistoleer u can cap dodge and kd and havin higher numbers for blind/dizzy/stun....and keep in mind...the mediation ability will help u only after the fight but not while u are in...

So why has the RM twice the melee defense the Swordsman has ?


I'm not positive, but I think this was implemented way back when, during the time the 2.5x rifleman melee penalty was around.

Either thator the Devs are justclueless. I like to think the latter.


And don't fall into that "rifleman are the number one damage dealer in the game trap". They're not. Anything worth soloing in this game is best soloed by a melee profession, not a ranged, except for possibly a commando who relies on a fire dot. In fact, it takes a rifleman a half-hour to 45 minutes to solo an nightsister elder using conceal shot, the swordsman can do it in 8 minutes. When it comes to soloing, melee professions outshine ranged professions by a wide margin.

hey please people stop complaining about other peoples professions cuz it doesn't matter much cuz eventually we will all get nerfed even thoguh it was pushed back it is coming.


i mean really complaining got so many non uber professions nerfed and i'm tired of hearing the complaining about how other professions are to powerful.

FULL ACK! Being a Master Rifle for round 2 months and droped it a week ago...As a Rilfeman imo u cangive a goodsupport for the melee-professions but soloing high-end-mobs isway harderfor a rifleman than with any elite-melee-profession if done by now.

But, you won't dodge while you hold a 2 handed weapon. So being a master swordsman and dabling in those two profs to cap your dodge mod is a waste of skill points.


If you want the melee and range defenses, go master sword, the precision striking tree in TKA and then stances and grips in fencer. That should cap you out in melee and get you close in ranged.


If you want a KD that badly, you still have the skill points left over to master brawler.

For the 2-handed dodge will not work...thats correct but with cob and +100 on counterattack a swordsman has no need to dodge.... so in pve i dont miss it BUT when i go in pvp i mostly have my baton and dot-pistols in use...and believe me...in that way its no waste of points...for sure i´m not a fast killer but most of my opponent will die sooner or later...

Everybody is talking about Soloing...
Correct me if i'm wrong, but this is supposed to be a MULTI Player game, isn't it ?

Why is everybody so determined to Solo everything ? Yes, Melees can solo better then Ranged.
Groups of melees and ranged are the ultimate
But i don't want to solo everything. Its just boring. I play this game to have fun playing with other people.

I want a consistent system where every Class has its weakness and strength.
RM is a really great Profession, just like the Swordsman is. But the system is inconsistent.
