Thread: Katana.... A great but almost useless Sword since the Scythe. Or is it...

So i am sitting around looking at how simple the katana is and I remember back when you used the power hammer and the katana almost 99% of the time. It is a shame i remember looking like a samurai with my katana hacking and slashing through victim after victim.

Scythe Blade moves into the picture.... Katana has now dissapeared from almost everyones arsenal. Its a shame that a weapon so great has to just vanish. I actually was able to find a weaponsmith by chance that was in the midst of making a batch of 9 new katanas. I was shocked.I figured why would a weaponsmith make a katana anymore aren't they extinct.

Turns out the max dmg on thetwo that i picked up werenear max of400. I decided to then chance a slice on both of them dreading the illustrious speed slice. I ran into a friend who took the swords out of my hand and started tweaking them. He looked up after one and said yikes. Yikes i thought speed slice for sure and sure enough it was. He had tweaked one of the couplers inside the handle. He made a mistake and hit the red wire which on that weapon was designated for speed.

Next... He picked up theother sword and without even saying a word opened up the handle to look in the vast array of wires. A few minutes pass and he looks up at me a second time. Hands the sword to me and says "The samurai are not dead." I carefully hold the blade in my hand and examine its new found glory Max Dmg 517. Now this my friend is a amazing katana, I told him as he shook myhand and headed off.

Time to test this bad boy out. Off toDathomir and those wicked nightsisters. Hack Slash Slice Dice. I feltlike a kid again my favorite sword was reinvented. Kudos to the weaponsmith who did this. I was fortunate to get thelast two in the batch. If you see a zabrak on naritus with a katana there is a good chance it is me.

Nice....

I've always been a fan of the 2hCurved Sword (Assuming that's what you classify as a Katana) and used it most often while grinding. I looted myself some very nice Rancors Teeth and had a friend of mine make me a bactch of swords. They're nice and a few are up near the 400 max dmg range. The thing that bugs me most about them is wide damage range- the minum is so low you just never know where the dmg will lie within the range. I still use em on occasion though..

Wookiee in ceremonial hunting armor + katana looks cool!

i use them alot. i have some made by my now retired guild weaponsmith that made me a batch of 300 max unsliced, and i got em sliced for around 400 damage each (2 got speed slices , the rest damage) and i grinded out swordsman with just katanas (even though i had a scythe to use) i had a scythe but i didnt use it at all since it was my only one, so i used swords. i still use them whenever i use swordsman except for pvp or high lvl mobs.

True story im bringin the team back, even Roy Jones was forced to lean back

your right Katanas are cool but Scythes own them. The low min on them is the killer and when you do the math they are pretty much no match for the widely popular scythes. Its a shame coz they look so damn cool

Scythes are great, but for some things they are just overkill. Why use up the condition on your million credit scythe when you can get the job done just as easily with a high damage-sliced 2-hand curved sword for a fraction of the cost? I almost always use a 2-hand curved sword (or a PH) with my swordsman alt, busting out the scythe only for the really tough fights.

Yeah that is what i based this thread on. The thought of using a weapon to keep the condition up is good but when i meet up with a tough critter and i can use my sword I will. Scythe is great i just wish it would have been some other type of dmg like heat or something sweet like that. This sword has made iteasier to switch out my katana and SLICEand DICEthings. The wound is also double or more than the scythe which is another plus. I love this sword and it has made a nice alternate to my 438 max scythe.

Its just that the level of dmg on the weapons in the first post are not common weapons. More than likely using some really nice rancor teeth. Some 200+ max teeth may go for quite a bit. It may not be 1 million+, but it will be nowhere near a 10-20k for a base weapon using no enhancements.

I rarely use my sythes as well. I still prefer sliced cleavers over curved swords because of the high min. Its still a rare occasion that I don't use a PH at this point though.

2H Curved sword is always my first choice, I'm paranoid about wasting my Scythes on foes that dont' deserve to be killed by them. How it usually goes for me is, start with curved unless A)The target has high kinetic resists compared to blast or B) this Nightsister is going to have me for lunch if I don't use my scythe. I don't now how many 2H curved swords I've burned through but I'm still working with the first of my scythes.

Good point about cleaver min. damage. I need to run mine through the damage calc and see if I can justify using my cleaver again, they are THE sword in the looks deparment. IMO

Is your friend role play a smuggler? Sorry, I just have to ask, cuz I used to be a smuggler and red wire designated for speed is something that I do not know about. By the way, congrat on that cool sword, once in a while I still use Katana to kill, but my RP weapon still is a Cleaver, feel like one of those berserker in anime

I prefer the clever as my backup weapon. I have a few 3.3 300+ cleavers that seem to do pretty good. And the min damage is much better than a "katana" Of course to get a 300+ cleaver you need bout a 32%+ slice I believe.

I love the 2hand curved, use it as much as I can got hold of some reasonable max dmg ones, but mostly I just use em for the look - have started using a Grooved 2hand Curved with a dmg slice on atm for the sexay red swish of the blade
