Just found out I can't use any area attacks when doing faction missions.
Im doing act 3 and got 3 or 4 IMPS on me. Area attack 3 and boom I got both IMPS and REBs on me despite the fact the I am an overt Rebal defending the rebal base. I was soenraged I went Anikin on anything alive around me and ended up killing all the imps and rebs.
Is this suppose to happen?????

make sure you have a target before you start hitting area.
sometimes i lose mine and have to find a new target.
it should work.

I have had the same problem. Not on that quest though (haven't done it yet), but on Yavin hunting and a rebel gets intothe mix of me killing stranded Imps, lots of area attacks from me. When all the imps are dead the lone rebel keeps hitting me. Weird.
I didn't want to kill him but how much beating can you take before you loose your patience. So, he went down. Of course I buried him in the forrest and said a pray.

He's talking about the Friendly fire bug. It happens from time to time, It happened to me during an Imperial raid on our base, not only did I get TEF'd to the rebel NPCs I was TEF'd to all rebel players not in my group.

I had the same thing happen to me, what a pain. I haven't gone back to try to repeat yet....

On top of that, it was after the 2nd wave, and I think they had only killed 1-2 of the Rebs...so I was in plenty good shape.

i've had this happen as well. i was using my commando defending against a raid for a neighboring city. some imperial smuggler hits feign death, so naturally, i stacked 4 burns on him (this was before publish 6). man, were therebels around me surprised when i hit them with flamecone1 and 2.

Yeah AOEs can be pretty indiscriminate.. gotta watch that.
even happens with area cone attacks... If the npcs are targetable theyre hitable with an area attack...
This used to happen with towns folk somtimes in PvP fights but im not sure if thats still around from Waaay back.
I think its REALISTIC though... if your indiscriminately trying to hit evreything around you.. you'll do just that..
Even with cone shots and stuff... inocent bystanders bite the dust in real life too... bullets dont care who you are.

Yeah but this isn't real life. Any area attack is tottaly useless in PVP or faction PVE such as with Act 3. I can't tell you how many rebals I killed last night and how many faction points I lost because of it.
I can except the fact that I can hurt other NPCs of the same faction even though I dont agree with it in game. However I'd rather not get TEFed for it when it's my mission and I am freaking Overt!

Used panic shot in Act 3 and got the same thing, hit a rebel who kept following me around, finally had to take some time out from trying to kill Imps to whack the rebel who got his feelings hurt, and eventually died. Bummer.

Make sure there are no Rebels in your FOV if you have to use an Area Attack, it seems to work with pistols.
