Thread: Are Loot/Template Threads Distracting?

Generally our forum over the past few months has seen a good number of threads that are on the same two topics: "uber" loot drops and templates. As a quick question to you guys, how distracting do you find these to our general discussion of the Swordsmen prof? How would you feel about centralized/stickied threads and more policing of extraneous posts outside those threads?

Any feedback at all is helpful.

Personally I don't want to do any more policing than possible but I know that other forums have taken actions to tone down the "noise" factor of lots of posts on the same subject. So I'm just trying to get a read on what you guys feel.

Consolidating the template discussion like the Fencer forum has it would help reduce clutter and help people get the information/insight they are looking for.

How about stickies without policing ?

I've seen threads being locked on other boards and i don't like it. I don't like the looks of a board where half of the threads have been locked and i also think that introducing a policy is unnecessary extra work.

I know the number of stickies should be limitied but i think it should be possible to make room for a "loot" and a "template" sticky...

We could have those stickies up there first and reevaluate after awhile if further steps are necessary.

Personally, I really like the loot threads, in fact, at times they keep me going back ingame to play more. The template threads I HATE, though. I've seen plenty of template guides/suggestions/questions, and mostly if I see too many at once I just skip this forum entirely. So my vote would be keep loot threads, sticky one good template guide and kill the rest.

Its not really distracting as much as it is annoying. Its one thing to as a template question, its entirely different when your the 5th post on the same page that asks the same question. Our forums tend to look like this...

1. swords related post

2. newb question (where canI level the fastest)

3. Template question

4. what shouldI level first

5. what should I put with Master swords for PV*

6. Whats the quicles way to level?????Please read

7. swords related post

8. where do i get uber loot

9. is swords good for pvp/pve?

10. whats the fastest way to level

11. swords post

12. hey what do you think of this template

13. W00t leveled in 29min

14. Need Help please read what blocks shouldI do first.

15. can i solo?

16. template question

Mmm i agree about the loot threads being good reading - most swordspeople are PvE so it's nice to see what stuff is dropping for our community friends, the template questions as mentioned above all seem to be pretty much the same so they get a little annoying at times maybe a central thread for template/skills/levelling discussion would be a good idea.

Things would slow down considerably without loot and template threads. I prefer a more active board with subjects that don't really interest me to a dead board that does.

I think in the end you would be able to find more information to better use the profession because sifting through every thread takes a lot of reading. I think that is a good comprosie if the boards will be dead.

I think stickying posts on all the major subjects would helpand the swordsman forum trolls politely directing the authors of threads that are already addressed to the stickies.

/Seconded

I really liked this feature when I was visiting the Fencer boards and while I wouldn't want us Swordsmen to be labeled "copycats" I think consolidading template questions into one Sticky thread makes a lot of sense. In addition, we could probably do a similar thing for "leveling" questions as well. First off, it saves clutter on the "flowing" board. Secondly, it provides an easier place to find/reference previous posts as well as a quicker way to scan for those particular topics.

So long as the loot threads are swordsman specific, or at least cool stuff that a swordsman found =) I think threads like "OMG I Pwned a Ranc0r!, Swordsman rock!" are a fun part of the swordsman forums. I think threads about your accomplishments as aswordsman, can be entertaining to read and inspiring for new swordsmen, or people just browsing the forums seeing if this is the class for them. Loot threads kinda fall into that category. So long as it's not excessive of course. Swordsman forums are a really nice little community, so much less whining and crying and captial letters, in bright red... 36 pt. font...

I did respond nicely because I don't think being rude will do much, but damn, he knew the question has been asked before, yes the search engine on these forums suck but you don't even need to do a search to find a template thread cause there's atleast 5 on the first page. That is distracting.
