I'm a Master Doc who is picking up swordsman so I can harvest my own meats. I also like being able to harvest all my resources. I'm currently Swordsman 1/0/0/1, but here's where I'm planning to go:
Master Doctor
Swordsman 2/2/0/2
Artisan 0/0/0/3
Scout 2/0/0/0
SP Remaining - 4
Now I'm thinking of switching Scout to 0/0/2/0 or dropping down to Novice. If I drop to Novice then my SP Remaining becomes 9.
My question is, what should I consider spending these 4 to 9 points on in Swordsman. For that matter, and I thinking correctly going with 2/2/0/2 to start with? My main goal is PvCreature, but I will probably aid my guild on some PvE quests.
Thanks for any suggestions

Id go 2402 then as you have the speed of the sword and can attack faster this helps a lot

if you are going just for harvesting, go 0,0,1,0 swordsman and save some points. once you get area2 you can clear out most creature lairs snap with buffs and decent armor. spend the points inscout or something instead (better harvesting)

0/0/1/0 will allow you to handle most low-mid level lairs easily, if you plan on hunting larger creatures you might want to go 0/3/1/0 to get headhit 3.

Just do what I do, Master Doctor, Master Heavy Swords and switch between 0010 Scout and 0001 Artisan depending on whether your harvesting or surveying - bear in mind that with food you can get your surveying up to the next resolution level so you can survey 4x128m instead of 3x64m which I find is enough to get decent results.

With my build, I do not have Doc, but as WarFerret said, you can easily switch between two basic professions to suit your situation. I have only enough points left over from my combat profs to pickup Medic 0 1 0 0, so if I need to survey to plant harvesters, I simply drop Medic (do not need to heal myself for simple survey tasks) and pickup Artisan until I find the spot, and then switch back to Medic when I am done. It is only a bit of a hassle to do this, but it is completely workable.

since Swordsman is your only fighting skill, you'll want to get the most for the points you spend on it. I would suggest:
master doctor
swordsman 0412
artisan 0003
scout 1020
with this build, you getspeed +65and theawesome headhit3. The two boxes you have inoffense arereplacedwith one box in defense which contains spin2, which is slightly superior to area2 in terms of damage/delay ratio, and saves 4 skill points. Finesse 2 gives you +20 accuracy, important for using a powerhammer
with scout 1020 you still have a measure of terrain negotiation, and can harvest a reasonable amount of resources
if you wanted to sacrifice abox in scout, you could go 0413 in swordsman and be certified for the scythe blade...a speed sliced one would work great with this build
hope this helps

If you're just harvesting meat you really don't need area attacks. It has been my experience that with anything under like 5 things attacking you, headhit 3 actually goes faster than spin 2, because you don't have to worry about the damage being spread out over three pools, and two or three headhits with a power hammer will take out anything up to like 12k HAM. I'd take those points and either stick them in the accuracy tree, or get yourself more creatureharvesting.

Personaly I am Master Doc/Swords and just keep 1000 scout on the side for the speed up and down the hills. (I hate moving up hills with no terain negotiation.)

That's how I run it generally, but I switch occasionally depending on what specifically I'm doing and where I'm doing it, if it's a relatively flat planet I'll sometimes switch the point over but with Veghash I generally don't have to.

Of course I forgot to mention that with this approach I usually get to Dathomir and realise I've left all my points in Artisan and can't harvest worth a damn

what about master swordsman, rifleman and tk 3000? that would be a good combo because once you geta buff you can power boost and both of your proffesions do mind damage.

Do you not realize that this person is picking up swordsman so they can hunt for doc resources? The earlier poster's comment about switching between artisan and scout is something that I should do.
