Thread: Swordsmen on mounts
With the advent of vehicles, mounts have almost gone by the wayside. The trick for restoring them? Create some special moves that actually work on mounts. Throughout history, a number of weapons have proven to be more powerful from horseback. Pikeman and heavy swordsmen should both have at least one or two moves from a mount that are butt kickers.
It would add an interesting element to combat, an unarmed TK should quake in his boots when a guy with a ten foot lance or someone swinging a huge broadsword comes running at him on avicious animal. It would almost make sense to have it be a line of heavy swordsman and Pikeman, a line of mounted attack pieces. Like carbineers get bonuses to attack while running, there could be a bonus to attack while riding. There could by any number of specials, mounted attack 1 through whatever, a special intimidate, some form of mounted combo attack where your damage and mounts damage get added together and multiplied? A defensive bonus for being mounted and harder to get to? A chance that any damage to you goes to mount?
I still often use my mount simply because it follows me around and I dont have to remember where I parked it if I get involved in a longer battle out in the boonies. Although if they had a "auto set waypoint" function to help find lost vehicles, that would be pretty cool too :-)

Amgine, mounted warriors throughout history have controlled mounts whilst havning both hand occupied e.g. Medieval Knights (sword/shield, 2H sword etc) and Mongol Horser Archers etc etc.
They controlled the mounts with their legs, like in Dresage (sp)
cheers
Mint Idea btw, like it! ![]()
This would also (partly) solve the kiting problem we have.

I like the idea of a seperate line of Swordsman just for "Mounted Combat". It would give us something special and individual like the Meditation line does for TKA.
I like the idea, too - but surely it would be more appropriate for Pikemen, who have Lances in their arsenal (even though a Pikeman was certainly traditionally a footsoldier)?
Perhaps Pikemen should be renamed Polearm Specialists and have a Mounted Combat line, but Swordsmen have one or perhaps two specials that could be used mounted... low accuracy but very high damage (certainly not the accuracy you'd need to put a bleed on or anything). Perhaps even this sort of attack would be queued until such time as the target was in range... so: decide to /mounted2hHit that Lesser Desert Womp Rat... ride out of range, turn and line up for the charge, queue combat move and charge. Ifvery successful, charge on past without the opponent getting a chance to retaliate (unless you're already in combat - only works when initiating combat). If not so successful, they retaliate and your mount stops within melee range. If you mess up horribly, you're knocked off your mount (poster prone, dizzy and/or stunned, weapon unequipped and possibly damaged).
Great Idea! Even if it was another profesion, it would be great!
Almost make it a Creature Handler/Brawler class.
Ride that Dewback into battle, have it attack while you do too.

You know... if that's what the CH class had been from the get go, balanced melee (maybe some limited pistol skill or something too) while riding... I dont' think the whole creature imbalance would be nearly as bad, because then the CH's would be taking damage and possibly dying, instead of hiding behind a wall of grauls and spamming ranged specials. Oh well, it's a bit late to change it all now.
