Thread: NEW EMAIL TO THE DEVS and other stuff...please read
Hiya all,
first of all, you didn't make it easy for me this time...lol...lots of different and sometimes opposing opinions about various issues. That made it difficult for me to spot a straight line, mutual agreement.
Ialso decidedto pick another format for thereport this time:
Onething we noticed after the first set of mails was the fact that by trying to put a couple of related issues and giving too much explanation about them in one single issue, we gave the Devs too much room to simply pick out one subject adressed and answer it. Therefore also some of you weren't happy with it and requested a shorter format, which im going to use for this mail.
In addition to that the program seems to be halted at present time and i can't assure or tell you when and if our new mail is going to be read and i guess as long things haven't started running again or a clear statement about the state of the program is being made it wouldn't make sense in my opinion to send in a full report like the ones before.
You will find some moreinfo regarding this mail afterthe following:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. From the Update Notes 09/04/03: "Added 30 second posture change/knockdown timer"
We are wondering if it has been taken into consideration, when the decision to implement this has been taken, that our profession currently hasFIVEposture changing specials, namely Area Attack 1-3 and Sweep 1-2. These specials have been transformed after the patch into five specials with an aweful higher "Miss"-rate resulting, if eventually hitting the target, in a 1-2 seconds posture change with a 30 second timer on top of it. In addition to that we want to remind you that we don't have a straight KD special and that our KD so far consisted of an Area Attack 3 posture down + dizzy combo. We understand that a change regarding the KD issue was needed and unavoidable, yet there is overall consent that these changes broke and took alot of fun from a major part of our profession. In case these facts have been taken into consideration we would like to know why and what your current vision about our profession is.
Proposed solutions:
Widespread: From removing/decreasing the timer on posture changes to a revamp of our specials. Please read the following threads regarding these issues:

2. From the Update Notes 09/04/03: "Decreased two handed melee move costs."
Sorry, but we didn't notice any change at all.

3. "Out of range" message when fighting Malklocs on Dathomir
It seems that the actual hitpoint of these animals are right in the middle of them. As these creatures are huge it seems to be impossible fighting them if not being placed right in the middle of their bodies.
We would be happy if this could be checked, also for other big creatures.

4. The empty sword finesse box
An ever returning topic which has already been mentioned in previous mails and we really would like to see being worked on, as to achieve this box we need to gain a very high amount of combat XP and invest alot of time only to be rewarded with neither skills or specials.
Please check links and proposed solutions from our previous mails.

5. New weapons
Your announcement to implement new weapons is also an ever returning topic on our boards.
When will these weapons be implemented ? We really hope that these weapons won't simply consist of new skins put over existing weapons but that for exampledamage categorizations will be expanded (Electricity/Heat...).
Please check links and possible solutions of our previous mails plus this thread:

That's it.
Besides the fact of using a new format i decidedalso to dosomething else different:
This mail is going to be sent to the Devs in the next minutes, as i herewith would also like to announce my resignation from the correspondents program and would like to draw a line regarding my activities on the boards and bug reporting. At least for awhile.
3 reasons:
1. I want to make this short because i have posted often enough about it recently and you can read about it on this board but also in this thread whichi would like you to read in case you plan on applying for this job (especially Holo's posts):
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=514535
..more about that though in reason 2.
The only thing i want to add and say regarding the communication issue is that it's not the fact of having to wait so long for the replies to our issues that i'm having a problem with. As you may have noticed i have never been under pressure from your side regarding it, and i would like to thank you for that. I'm generally also a rather patient person...at least that's what others say about me. It's more my own personal view and attitude regarding certain aspects of life which didn't want me to go on with this. I'm talking about basic rules and views in connection with relationships, whether private or professional. Respect and courtesy are very important points for me when it comes to those views and rules. But in the end that'sonly me and i guess everyone has his/her own philosophy regarding these things in life and i'm certainly not in the position and also don't wantto judge or force it upon someone else. Only this to conclude: sometimes the Devs give me the impression that they don't realize that alot of us are adults, have families, life experience and also jobs which might be as stressful if not even more as theirs. We actually DO know sometimes what we are talking about.
2. Eventhough the program seems dead right now and despite my more kind of personal issues i have with the team i'm still totally convinced that one day the program will eventually work. And if you have read the thread i mentioned in reason 1 you will see that it's being worked on and what kind of things you can expect regarding communication. Therefore i think it's a good moment for me to quit this job: if communication is meant to get tighter in terms of chats and a closer contact to the designers some of you are definitely a better choice for this job. I personally don't have any MMORPG history, haven't played EQ, UO.... and the whole game system is new to me (so far i was more into flightsimulation and FiPS). Many of you have much more experience in that regard and have a better knowledge and understanding about how certain things are supposed to work and i also mean the technicalities (stuff like DPS, discussions about skills and so on). My whole approach to this game is basically different and simpler than maybe most of yours: i'm basically not interested in all the background, i live my virtual life as a swordsman....if i die, i die and will try stuff again...maybe differently....if i live, i live and can be as happy as you guys. If i perceive something as being broken i try working my way around it if possible. I guess you could say i'm more belonging to the role player category.
3. I read a post the other day where someone was telling about some friends of his in the game who actually have never found their way to the boards. As it seems many of these people are happy players. I don' want to say that i intend doing the same, i actually find the boards to be essential and useful. I have noticed recently though that a) i have certainly been influenced a little bit by alot of negativity on these boards (and i'm not really talking about ours) and b) i simply lost a bit of my actual playing time.
So i decided to quit this job and devote myself again more to the actual game. So after this post you probably won't see me around here for awhile. I need some distance.
I really want to encourage you though to send in your applications, eventhough i seems as ifi'm selling you a dead horse at this point of time consisting of a blue handle and a fancy title, and will do all i can to get the message through to the Devs that i'm resigning and make sure that you will get a new correspondent as soon as possible. In case you do want to apply for this job be sure to bring a good amount of patience with you....at least for now.
Ok...that's it.
I want to conclude this by thanking you dearly for all your support and help you've been giving be in these past weeks. It was honestly fun working for and with you and you din't only help me regarding the task i had to do but alsotaught me alot about the gameplay.....i have learned an awesome lot.
Keep the respect you have for eachother up on this board. It's awesome.
Happy wielding
Gorecki
I think we should all be thanking YOU dearly, Gorecki.
Gonna hate seeing you go, but I also hope you're able to enjoy the game that much more.
Gorecki, sad to see you go. You did an excellent job while you were here and helped bring up and state the isuues with our profession clearly. Much appreciation and a lot of respect for devoting your time and energy to helping us all out.
As for your resignation...what can I say. You've done a great job and I wish you well for the future. As for myself, I'm very likely to cancel at the end of the month; I've just become too discouraged by the GCW and the way the devs have been breaking our class. However, if the devs gave an honest reply to the issues you submitted, it might encourage me to stick it out.
Great email!
I have a suggestion -- either briefly summarize the best points found in the associated links, or don't include them at all. My guess is that the recipient of these emails simply prints them out and brings them to a meeting. I doubt they are going to go to every URL, print out the first page of commentary, click on page 2, print out the page, click on page 3, print out that page, and so forth, for all of the links.
Thank you for your excellent work as a correspondent. Sorry to see you resign the post, but I understand.
Go and enjoy the game.
